to think that you should be able to buy school uniform all year round?

The week after term started some toerag at school took DD's cardigan DD misplaced her cardigan.

I gave it 2 weeks to turn up. It didn't. I've spent the last 3 weeks scouring all the shops locally for a replacement. All the shops that were filled to bursting with school uniform in July now have a sorry selection of 3 or 4 different cardigans so needless to say I haven't been able to find one in the right size and colour. M&S on-line are permanently out of stock of anything in the right colour that is smaller than a 15-16 which, whilst I like to buy big, might be pushing it for a 4 year old.

I do get the supply/demand thing, but surely I'm not the only person that wants to buy school uniform at this time of year?

I agree with you its a real pain. Have you got a specialist school uniform shop nearby, they at least sell it all year round but they do cost a bit more

dilemma456 · 14/10/2010 13:00

What colour do you need? I'm sitting in waiting for the gas man so don't mind trying to source one for you

Rentaghoste · 14/10/2010 13:01

The M&S I went to yesterday, (DD suddenly won't wear her school polo shirts as "they are for boys") didn't have any school clothes at all, and half the children's clothing area had been taken over by Xmas tat.

YANBU. Think of those who win school appeals after September's intake, to say nothing of those who move or whose uniform colour chamges for whatever reason.

A couple of years ago I won an admissions appeal for DD2.

I had to find her some royal blue v-neck jumpers.

In January.

I ws not amused, I can tell you!

memoo · 14/10/2010 13:15

M&S online still have all the uniform available, just checked.

memoo · 14/10/2010 13:16

And BHS online too, they have some items reduced as well.

redskyatnight · 14/10/2010 13:25

Sadly neither have a royal blue cardigan in a size to fit DD ...Sad. Thanks for looking anyway.

Here??

Bumblingbovine · 14/10/2010 13:31

Asda online has a rather nice royal blue swing cardigan in sizes 3-4, 4-5, 506 and 6-7

The cardigan is a bit unusual but I think it is quite nice. Would that do?

Yanbu, dd started nursery in Sept, orderered uniform though the school (smallest size), it arrives (Oct)and is at least 3 or 4 sizes too big! Now I can't find yellow polo shirts anywhere Angry I'm just sending her in play clothes.

Hopefully they won't change the uniform before ds goes there, as i'm sure they'll fit him.

Bumblingbovine · 14/10/2010 13:36

Ok one more attempt to get the link right

Bumblingbovine · 14/10/2010 13:37

Asda online also do yellow polo shirts

direct.asda.com/george/girls/polo-shirts/0100205,default,sc.html although they don't seem to have the smaller sizes at the moment

mowbraygirl · 14/10/2010 16:35

My DD is having the same trouble she needs some more school shirts for her DD. I have tried various M & S stores have quite a lot of 14-15 year olds and in one size 18.

Luckily where I live we have a uniform shop which is very reasonable and has full stock all year round. When the GD's come to stay in half term I will take them in there to get what they want.

tibni · 14/10/2010 16:41

Have you tried Matalan? ds has yellow polo shirts and matalan are the only place that stock all year round. They also do the Royal Blue cardigans.

Melsoaps · 14/10/2010 16:46

OMG, just reading this and its reminded me my DD needs new school shirts and my local Asda has depleted stocks since they started back in september. Why is it so difficult during term time? Maybe stocks will be replenished next week ready for half term.....hmm

welshandproud · 14/10/2010 17:12

I've been looking for emerald green polo shirts for my daughter for weeks. Asda online have them but not in small sizes. Apparently they dispatch to stores while taking into account school catchment areas and uniform colours??? But no where in south wales seems to stock them...2 quid at asda or 8 at local uniform shop!Shock If anyone sees any in their local store aged 3/4 could you let me know? TIA
