I really hate the saying "I work hard and I play hard!"

It sounds so pretentious! And what exactly is playing hard anyway? Going out alot? Getting drunk alot? I clean and sleep alot, I wouldnt say I sleep hard and I clean hard.

I just heard it said by a girl I know going on holiday. Holiday! Like most people do every year. I wouldnt call that playing hard, Id call that normal behaviour!

I agree - utterly bleugh. She doesn't have children does she? The moment when the lines between work and play blur into a horrible mess

FattyArbuckel · 13/10/2010 22:34

It can be translated as "I am an utter twat from twatsville"

BeatieJohnson · 13/10/2010 22:35

bollocks. if you work hard you are too knackered to consider 'playing' more than once a year. and then it takes a month to recover and do the washing

LaDiDevilDiDie · 13/10/2010 22:36

Is she on The Apprentice?? It's the sort of thing one of them would say.

wholovesyou · 13/10/2010 22:40

Shes also getting a BMW. Again, I dont see how that fits into either work or play category, its just a car?!

Im not jealous btw. I have a car and I go on holiday. Clearly Im a roaring success!

someone i know says this, well she says she works hard and plays harder, - she means she is totally knackered all the time and now her health is begining to suffer.

I work hard and so have no energy left for much else.
The quiet life suits me Grin good job it does.

DeadPoncy · 13/10/2010 22:55

You hear this most from corporate types who want you to do long hours... and then socialise with each other as well!

Big red flag, if anyone mentions this in an interview! Grin

I heard it alot when I worked as a PA in a Advertising sales office.

Their "playing hard" mostly consisted of getting drunk together, fighting over who was the best salesman/who had the best car/who wore the nicest suit/whose girlfriend had the biggest boobs.

I cant believe she said it, I liked her until then!
