To find my mother-in-law really irritating

Need to have a rant. Know I am being unreasonable as she is only trying to help but grrrrrr. She popped over to our house to help out with decorating while I am at work and couldnt manage the lock (which does need replacing). I called out a locksmith and asked her to wait as he said he would be there within the hour and asked her to call me so I could come and pay him when he turns up. I knew they would charge £69 for an hours labour because they told me on the phone. Anyway she rang me and was so condescending saying, "do you want the bad news. Because you've called out a big firm not a local small locksmith they are going you £69. If you'd contacted the engineer directly he would have done it for far less blah blah blah". Am so incensed but having to be nice because she is helping out. Why does it rile me so much ??!

My MiL is similar - I feel your pain. She seems to condescend to me all the time.

She offers food - no thanks I'm not hungry - toast? - no thanks - cake? - no thanks - biscuits - I AM NOT HUNGRY!

Do I need someone to walk with me five minutes down the road? - no I don't as I am a grown up not a child.

The one I love the best is when she is visiting and has been playing with DS for 5 minutes and then needs to go to the loo/pop out for a fag/go elsewhere and she says - Will you be right with him? What - the son I'm raising by mself with no help? The one I spend everyday with? Yeah - think I'll manage. Angry

I feel your pain.

And the postscript to all this is that the locksmith said there is nothing really wrong with the lock and she was just turning the key the wrong way, the daft old bat! Have just had to cook her dinner to say thank you for all her help. Hmmmmm!
