can you give your landlord/letting agent a call tell them the situation? offer to pay by cash?

redmoooon · 13/10/2010 09:47

nope it HA and it must be paid over the internet today :(

do you have their bank details? are you registered for online banking? You could send a payment from your bank account instead of using your card

redmoooon · 13/10/2010 09:55

no it has to be done through a payment site. Sitty shitty visa

can you leave it a few hours and come back, sometimes the problems only last a few hours

annh · 13/10/2010 10:10

Surely it won't go to court if you are one day late with your rental payment? Anyway, I think it is highly unlikely that the Verified system will be down all day, usually stuff like this is more a case of being off-line for an hour or two.

redmoooon · 13/10/2010 10:24

i am already several weeks behind annh so yes it is going to be handed over to the court tomorrow unless paid today.

The lady from halifax said hopefully a few hours but possibly all day, i have never known it to happen befor so dont know how long it's normally down for.

Can you ring the HA and let them know and tell them you'll be trying all day.

addicted is right, these things don't usually last all day

How awful. Try letting your landlord know, and keep trying. Verified by Visa is a big pain in the arse.

Can you ring the HA and ask them what arrangements they have for when the banks systems (especially those like verified for visa) are officially down for several hours - and when the bank can't tell you when it is going to be back.

If they have a system that insists on getting payment in one particular way then they really should have some sort of system in place for dealing with major problems within the system. I know they like to make out that it's not needed as bank systems don't go down very much but it seems to be happening more and more - there have been several stories on the news recently about shops in chaos as card systems were down - and they were only down for 20 mins or so.

Have you been able to find anything on the news about it that you can use as evidence that you are having problems? Presumably you can't be the only person today trying to amke a payment to them using the verified by visa system.

Could you suggest several different options - such as you try on the half hour, every half hour, until the system is back up so long as it is up by 5pm (or whatever their end of day is) and then will try again tomorrow.

Definitely make sure they make a note of these conversations with you on your file so it can be seen that you are trying to pay early on in the day and not leaving it until the last minute and then having a problem.

Has anybody else you know got a card that isn't verified by visa that would make the payment for you if you could give them cash for the amount?

good luck - hope the system comes back up soon for you!
