quick help how to find the area of a traezium

AIBU in not knowing how to work this out lol only covered briefly in class and he has looked it up on a maths site but says ask mumsnet as they are real people (LOL) and they know better . TIA

YANBU to not know that

area = (half the sum of the parallel sides) x (perpendicular distance between parallel sides)

YABU to let him think this is a good way to do his hwk rather than finding it out for himself using google!

Divide the amount of clowns by the acrobatic troup, add 7 and subtract the number of high wire acts.

Draw lines to divide it into 2 triangles and a rectangle. Add area of rectangle to twice the area of one triangle (ie the area of 2 triangles = a rectangle made out of the 2 ends) then it should equate to p73's response.
