I do it all the time as well, I'm a naturally very nosey curious person. Plus, as we're trying to weigh up the pros and cons of moving vs loft conversion it gives us an idea of how much might be available to us if/when we come to do one or the other.

I don't we rent our house so I couldn't care less how much it is likely worth to our landlord!

My husband always checks if he sees a sold sign on our street. He wants to know what our place will be worth when we sell basically. He is thrilled if they get a good price.

You could just do what my neighbour did and accost me in the street and ask me how much I sold it for.

I check and if I see a for sale sign near our house I go on the website to see what the house is like inside. I am very nosey!

I often go and have a look, esp when we were considering moving.

The OP might not live in a million plus house. On our road houses range from over £900k down to around £200k, and less for flats.

agree with HowAnnoying - the neighbours house having sold for that much doesn't mean that the OP's house is equally flashy.

The next house up from my old one is on the market for twice what most of the other houses on the street would ever be put on the market for.

My property backs onto theirs and guessing mine is worth less than a quarter, great to see they got a good price, can also see what they originally paid

HowAnnoying - that';s true yes. I know DD's school friend lives in a very expensive hall which is worth a lot of money. However, the surroundng houses range from small flats to big detached properties, so there is a massive range int he prices reflected on the website, with the hall standing out as being substanially higher than the rest.

You can get the sold prices on Rightmove too. Its the favourite pastime of bored housewifes in my village

YANBU. I check nethouseprices all the time! Especially if a house has recently been sold that we were previously interested in. I have to confess, I also check what people I know paid for their houses. Much more useful than the for sale price. I love the internet!
