To have judged about half of my daughters class

Or their parents that is. They are 6 and they came home with a letter saying could we cut the labels off foods so that the children wouod make a map of where the food they eat came from....with the implication being that they needed to bring a little bunch each as they were going to have their own maps.

So i spent a week peeling labels off things which looked interesting for her to take, she came home that day and she had only had one label to stick on her map because the teacher had had to share her labels out to people that didn't bring any - so that means at least 10 children hadn't brought any at all.

Now I know it's stupid and petty and maybe i just have label rage from spending so long trying to peel labels off jars without ripping them or making the writing hard to read Blush but it's not that hard is it just cut out a label or two and drop it in the book bag...

The teacher couldn't have done the original plan without the labels and the children get the message that it's optional to do these things.

AIBU to feel a bit judgey?

Bollocks Litchick.

formerdiva · 13/10/2010 11:33

And that's bollocks winter because....?

MaMoTTaT · 13/10/2010 12:21

The labels would be available to cut out while they're cooking dinner - not while sat on MN

Padme - than makes sense Smile

WinterOfOurDiscountTents · 13/10/2010 12:22

Because of the many good reasons outlined in the thread already, which your woman completely ignored, obviously.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 13/10/2010 12:23

Got to school this morning to realise I'd forgotten it was harvest festival! DC 1 and 2 were meant to have decorated envelopes and put a small donation for the homeless in, DD was meant to take in some rice or pasta. Oops!! So on a week where all homework was done on time and 2 cheques were returned promptly to pay for stuff I forgot this. Maybe some would say I was neglectful and should keep on top of things better but hey ho. I also feel a bit peeved that I feel guilty for forgetting but DH wouldn't even know it was school harvest if it was in 10 foot high neon signs over the school.

BrianAndHisBalls · 13/10/2010 14:43

litchick - exactly true.

winter - i think you need help, you are so aggressive.

Litchick · 13/10/2010 15:33

Winter, I read some of the reasons folk gave.
Yadda,yadda,yadda.

I'm not perfect.
There are times I don't do stuff.
But I don't make excuses.
Tis what it is.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 13/10/2010 16:14

Winter this thread is no aimed personally at you, maybe you need to let it go.

booooooooooyhoo · 13/10/2010 16:15

winter is on one at the minute, i don't think reasonable converstaion is on the menu.

Serendippy · 13/10/2010 16:15

Litchick, too true.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 13/10/2010 16:18

Agreed Boooo

Appletrees · 13/10/2010 16:20

Defence of winter..horribly dismissing to say yadda yadda...people struggle, winter recognises this.. if you people think its all "can't be arsed" you are wrong

JinnyS · 13/10/2010 16:20

Every class my DCs have been in has had a large proportion of non-contributing parents so I assume it's the norm. I think teachers have to assume that some will forget to take letters home, some will forget to bring items in and some won't be bothered to do it all. If the items are essential to the lesson then they should be provided by the school. If the school can't provide then select a different task to achieve the same learning outcome

Appletrees · 13/10/2010 16:24

Horrible Victorian attitude of women not allowed a moment to breathe.. must ne constantly at beck and call of children teachers husbands employers domestic work.. if she takes time out she is somehow reprehensible and sacking. This is ghastly attitude for one woman to have about another

Appletrees · 13/10/2010 16:26

And boo.. winter is "on one"? What is this?

booooooooooyhoo · 13/10/2010 16:27

appletrees this thread is about parents, not about women, if the parent who takes on most of the homework supervision in your hous is you then take that up with your partner.

booooooooooyhoo · 13/10/2010 16:28

on a mood

Appletrees · 13/10/2010 16:37

Highly disingenuous to assume that most of the people dealing with this stuff are women.

Do you want to bring personals into it? how nice of you. I don't have an issue thank you.

Saying winter "needs help" and is "off on one" is extremely unkind. You haven't read her posts or you'd know why.

Appletrees · 13/10/2010 16:41

are not women .. or are women? whatever

I mean most of them are, obviously.

I don't see why anyone should be a slave to label peeling and be judged for it when they've actually stopped their work to Shock do something relaxing to recover from the rest of their day.

booooooooooyhoo · 13/10/2010 16:48

i didn't for one minute suggest winter needs help. if you find that in any of my posts p;ease show me and i will apologise because it is not what i think. i said she was on one meaning in a mood because she is and she has admitted as much elsewhere.

i agree i don't see why anyone should be a slave to peeling labels but you are the one who said it was a victorian attitude, to expect women to constantly be at the beck and call of teachers. no-one suggested it should be the mothers who help with their dcs homework.

BrianAndHisBalls · 13/10/2010 16:51

it was me that said she needed help and i stand by that. She is ridiculously aggressive and as thats not a nice way to exist I suggested she got help.

Appletrees · 13/10/2010 17:01

so you didn't exactly mean it kindly brian?

why don't you read back

boo: no one suggested it: but we are on mumsnet, the majority of posters are women, women do the majority of domestic work in Britain yadda yadda yadda

really it does not need spelling out

Litchick · 13/10/2010 17:02

Apple - of course people can take a moment to breathe. We can all do what we want. Free country.

Right now I am on MN. Fair dos.
But I can't start typing about having no time to peel off a lable. Cos that would be a lie.

Appletrees · 13/10/2010 17:02

boo -- i know it wasn't you but that last series of posts was really mean minded

you can tell when people are cocky nasty aggressive and you can tell when people are unhappy aggressive

BrianAndHisBalls · 13/10/2010 17:03

Appletrees - I'm not quite sure why you think I should answer to you?

I meant it exactly as I said it, I think she needs help.

You are so patronising.
