To hate it when parents get baby related tattoos?

It's not that I hate tattoos at all, or babies!
I just think it's a really huge waste of money that would be much better spent/saved for the baby and a bit weird and pointless too.

YANBU

Lulumaam · 11/10/2010 13:36

I imagine a tattoo is cheaper and more longlasting than the Complicated Prams and the like you see, and various other gadgets that lots of new parents buy

so i think YABU

FoundWanting · 11/10/2010 13:38

DD finds this fascinating.Grin She asked me if some Mums have trouble remembering their children's names and/or birthdays.

Iklboo · 11/10/2010 13:39

MIL has her children's initials tattooed on her arm, with their children's initials tattooed underneath that - with each subsequent child having their initial tattooed under the older sibling. I'm just waiting for an unfortunate acronym/acrostic to crop up
For instance - if Colin had Ruby, Annabelle and Peter...........

GMajor7 · 11/10/2010 13:41

YANBU. Tack, pure tack

Hedgeblunder · 11/10/2010 13:41

It's just mad- my friend gave birth three weeks ago and isn't that well off, but has budgeted 90 quid for a tattoo!
Why not save it for a lovely holiday/days out etc? I don't see how the kid benefits from it??

I'm not a fan of tattoos in general but YABU on the basis that its their body, and their money.

SacharissaCripslock · 11/10/2010 13:43

I plan to get my DS2's name tattooed on me. Not decided where yet or I'd have done it ages ago. He was stillborn. I don't care if anyone thinks it's weird or pointless or tacky.

Ragwort · 11/10/2010 13:43

Actually I hate all tattoos. Quite put me off my aerobic class this morning as the lady in front of me had tatoos showiing in all sorts of inappropriate places.Grin.

booooooooooyhoo · 11/10/2010 13:45

i have my d1's first initial and i am deciding on what to have done for my ds2.

tattoos are such a personal thing that i think it is only up to teh individual involved to decide what they think of them.

i choose to decorate my body and if i want my children's initials on it then that is up to me. the same as you wanting highlights/a green car/nice paintings in your house. it is personal.

Fluffypoms · 11/10/2010 13:46

Each to their own!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 11/10/2010 13:48

I'm so sorry to hear about ds2 Sacharissa.

I was just going to mention that some bereaved parents have tattoo's or some sort of memorial piece, so yes YABU.

SpookyKalooki · 11/10/2010 14:02

When me and DH have kids I will be getting a tattoo of a flower (our surname) for each person in our family.

SpookyKalooki · 11/10/2010 14:03

So YABU, is what I forgot to write

TitsalinaBumSquash · 11/10/2010 14:06

I have my children's names on my chest, its my handwriting and my design and its very tiny buy i love it.

Me and my sisters also have matching tatoos saying Mum we got them on what was supposed to be her Birthday but she died... i don't give a shite what anyone thinks so there.

GreaterFence · 11/10/2010 14:08

I, like Sacharissa, lost a baby, at 20wks. That was 10yrs ago now but ever since I have been looking for a tattoo that I feel can symbolise the love and loss of my daughter.

I only decided what I want about 3weeks ago but as soon as I have saved up I shall be getting my first tattoo.

So I think YABU.

ratspeaker · 11/10/2010 14:09

YABU . It's a personal thing
better than the baby getting parent related tattoos

I don't neeed a tattoo to show I have kids, I've got the stretch marks as proof Grin

DooinMeSizers · 11/10/2010 14:10

What they should do is have 'shh' tattooed on the inside of their index finger instead. It will save a lot of breath later on Grin

YABU btw. Each to their own and all that Smile

pigletmania · 11/10/2010 14:11

I read once of a woman who lost her baby at birth, she had a tatoo of the baby on her arm so that he would forever be in her arms, made me Sad

Iklboo · 11/10/2010 14:14

Hasn't Cher X Factor got 'shh' tattooed on her index finger?

ditavonteesed · 11/10/2010 14:16

I have stars around a tattoo on my neck, in my dc's and dh's favourite colurs, so each has there own star, my choice, also means nothjing to anyone just seeing it.

QueenGigantaurofMnet · 11/10/2010 14:20

It has to be better than having a partner's name tattooed though, at least your children will always be your children.

lottiejenkins · 11/10/2010 14:23

I lost my eldest son nearly sixteen years ago, i intend to have a tattoo in memory of him in the near future!!!
