AIBU?

To be becoming more fond of Ann Widdecombe with each episode of Strictly?

The woman has a sense of humour.

She slapped Craig down.

She can't dance for shit, and she knows it, and mocks it herself.

She is a total prude, and is playing on.

Its bloody hilarious, and I find myself liking her Shock

AIBU? Grin

LOL at lecture. You think that is a lecture? Grin

Hmm thank you once again for pointing out that not everyone who is right wing is anne widdecombe. now can we get back to discussing anne widdecombe, who is right wing in extremis and remains so despite snuggling up to Anton Du Beke?

"Despite snuggling up to Anton du Beke" Aitch?

After Anton's "paki" comment last year, I'm not convinced he's the most progressive or liberal thinker on Strictly! They seem quite well suited to me.

Report
Aitch · 11/10/2010 10:55

haha yes you're probably correct.

Report
ColdComfortFarm · 11/10/2010 11:05

She is clearly's Anton's punishment for the 'paki' scandal. Tee hee.

Report
Dumbledoresgirl · 11/10/2010 11:05

Yes, you can go right back to slagging off the right wing bitch.

Yawn.

Report
Aitch · 11/10/2010 11:17

yawn, ffs. Hmm

good oh then, i take it you like her, ya know, for the anti-women, anti-human rights homophobe that she is... it just frightens me that so many other people forget so quickly when you put her in sequins and send her out onto the dancefloor.

Report
KeithTalent · 11/10/2010 11:27

What does she actually do now, apart from scd?

Report
RamblingRosa · 11/10/2010 11:37

Also, as for slapping Craig down, I'm sure it hasn't escaped his notice that she's deeply homophobic. He seems to be particularly (understandably) unimpressed by her.

I'm sure that's partly because she's dire and he never has much time for the novelty acts who stay in for way longer than they should because of the comedy/sympathy vote. I can't help but wonder if it's a bit because, as a gay man, he's not too fond of homophobic politicians.

Dumbledoresgirl · 11/10/2010 11:38

No Aitch, I don't like her. I said so in my first post.

But I don't like the way she is being villified on this thread for her views, when really she should be villified for her dancing.

Give the politics a rest eh?

I don't watch strictly but ABVU to start liking her. She is a hypocrite. Presumably she detests pornography (probably for different reasons than me) but still is able to write a column for Richard Desmond in the Express.
The Richard Desmond who started his career publishing wank mags and currently owns several 'adult' tv channels.

The OP is asking if she's being unreasonable to like AW. Some people are saying yes - because her views and her politics make her a pretty insidious person, which donning a few sparkly outfits and being a bit self-deprecating doesn't suddenly negate.

Why shouldn't said views and politics be fair game...?

Rambling Rosa - agree re Craig.

Report
DuelingFanjo · 11/10/2010 12:36

I find her really annoying, not because of her politics. When she had finshed her dance and was walking over to the judges she shouted 'what happened to the arms' about 10 times... why? She's one of tese people who has a come-back all ready and thought up in advance and then just shouts over people. Just not very bright or entertaining in my opinion.

So basically I dislike her personality.

stickylittlefingers · 11/10/2010 13:01

I thought she came over as rather horrible and self-obsessed on the programme, tbh. Tho that might be because I started off from a standpoint of loathing her and all she stands for :)

I was rather hoping the public was keeping her on for the ritual humiliation rather than liking her. If this means she's going to be turning up all over the telly at any "wheel on a sleb" juncture, it's yet another reason to read more.

i find her rude rather than funny. maybe it's just her defence mechanism.

"Anyone who can swallow the twin elephants of transubstantiation and papal infallibility and choke on the gnat of women priests has something very skewed in their judgment!"

Seeker that's a wonderful quote

< pulls out notebook and furtively copies it down >

  • having said that, DH is a catholic, does not believe in papal infallibilty and is in favour of women priests. (I don't know what he thinks about transubstantiation though - don't care! - and there are plenty of people in the C of E that believe in it)

VenusWasHerName · 11/10/2010 13:36

I'm a practising Catholic and I still agree with Seeker on the subject.

But, for the record, I think the last Pope to claim infallibility was Pius XII in the 1950s.

Report
Aitch · 11/10/2010 13:38

ahem, re papal infallibility, it's only been invoked twice this century, last time in the fifties... but anyway.

i completely do not understand your post, dg, the only reason she's on the show is because she's a well-known politician. we're not the fucking judging panel on Strictly, we don't have to look at her tootsies, we're allowed to remember what she actually is while she's sashaying past. Hmm

and yes, i don't imagine Craig finds her homophobia at all cute.

exhaustednurse · 11/10/2010 14:02

Vile, vile woman.

I hate the way she can wear some sparkly clothes, dance badly and then everyone thinks she is a good egg who is able to laugh at herself.

I agree with DF too - not only do I despise her political views but she just seems so agressive in her nature.

I cannot believe that she is a year younger than Felicity Kendal.

And I cannot believe that she has survived past the first weeks eliminations. Angry Shock

Horrible old bag.

Shes been OK so far but her humour is of one type only and will wear thin quickly.

I hope she has another ballroom dance this week and we can then see if she is even trying (clearly on Latin she isn't as she just doesn't have the fitness to cope).

She is a distraction for the early weeks but I hope she goes on her next Latin comedy act.

It's a freak show

The meeja is obsessed with AW because she is a "spinster" ie a virgin. Same patronising fascination as with Susan Boyle.

It's hilarious to have her on Strictly so we can all say "Ha ha, look at the old maid dancing in a pretty frock."

However no one forced AW to be on Strictly so that's her look out Grin

Report
knottyhair · 11/10/2010 15:10

She's not even "funny" on SCD. She's just tragic, rude, not taking it seriously, not getting into the spirit of the thing AT ALL. Politics aside (if that's possible!), awful awful woman.

Report
DuelingFanjo · 11/10/2010 16:23

actually, both her and Paul Daniels have the same kind of defence mechanism.
