Today chased a bunch of young(ish) teenagers from my garden (youngest about 14, eldest about 18). I saw them come over the fence and shouted out the window, they said they had dropped something in my garden. I told them that that was impossible and to get out. They didn't and so I went out my front door and told them to get out. They went on to say that they had thrown something into my garden the night before and were looking for it. I then told them (a bit of swearing was involved) that I didn't care and if it was in my garden it was my property. They left muttering threats (gonna burn my garden, break my face etc.).

Anway, did a sweep of the garden (was afraid of DS finding drugs) and found a TAG. Which had been cut off.

Anyway called the phone number on the tag. No answer. Called again. Still no answer. Have called all day and all I get is an answerphone message saying "You are through to ......" and then the sound of the woman on the phone putting the phone down, going back to ring tone and annoying woman adfin.

My personal answerphone message sounds more official than this, and people can leave messages.

So AIBU to expect that Tag monitoring services should be working at weekends and that maybe someone should be there to pick up the phone if you call the freephone number or at least have an answering service where someone can leave a message? If not, what is the point of Tags?

YANBU.
Have you tried phoning your local police station?

Dione · 09/10/2010 23:30

Did think about it, but, the police are not welcome in my area and know it. When they come they tend to arrive in 1 unmarked car and 2 jeepsHmm. I don't need that sort of attention, given that the boys who dumped the Tag already know where I live. I don't want to put DS at risk.

I just can't believe that the Tagging company, who are being paid from our taxes aren't manning their phones.

Don't worry....the tag will "report back" as such and that is when the tagging company report the breach in conditions....they may pursue a criminal damage to the tag as well but I doubt it.

Well, it's been sitting on my goldfish table for the last 12 hours.

"Electronic tagging", like "TV Detector Vans" are a bluff. It's essentially unheard of for anyone to be sanctioned for breaching tag conditions, and it's a sop to people naive enough to believe in the rule of law. "Electronic tagging" means "no sanction, no punishment, we're doing nothing" with a vague sop to the victims to pretend that it's not just spineless shite from the justice system. Either there should be a system with real sanctions, or we could save a lot of money by not bothering to pretend the tags are anything other than ugly bling for the asbo classes.

scurryfunge · 09/10/2010 23:50

Not true ....plenty of recalls made due to breach of conditions....it is the lack of sanctions for damaging the tags that is wrong....the tagging company can't be bothered to complain.
