YANBU, I think lots of parents enjoy this. That said, my son's first GF was a completely stunningly beautiful girl who had lots of problems, eating disorders and drug addictions (especially ketamine). He was totally out of his depth (they were 14), so be careful what you wish for.

I think you are just remembering the good bits - I'll send some of DD1's choices round to you and you'll quickly change your mind.

I never had a boyfriend till I was 18.
DD at 14 is not interested yet thank goodness.

YABU...it's going to bring new problems and worries along!

I wonder whether I'll be the MILF.
Shock

DD1 started with her first boyfriend when she was 16 and 3 years on is still with him. He is absolutely lovely, adores her and is a very welcome addition to our family. Was a bit odd when he came on holiday with us this year and we gave them the twin room at the top of the house then had to endure thundering of furniture as they shoved the beds together, but I just don't think about that side of things. she is nearly 20, he is 21 - guess they're past the holding hands stage!

you are not being unreasonable BUt you are wearing rose coloured specs!

What was young love to you was probably a nightmare for your parents, hoping you didn't get pregnant, hurt, lose interest in your school work etc.

Thankfully, my DD didn't date anyone until she was almost off to uni.

deaddei · 10/10/2010 16:17

My mum told a neighbour in my hearing (when I was 14) that I was very plain and unlikely to have a boyfriend/get married)
Lovely.
