to have my meal chosen for me at family do?

one of my family has a milestone birthday coming up an have emailed to say that they have (at the restaurant they've booked) booked the set menu at x per head and have told the venue number of veggies / non-veggies. I am fairly sure in the emails about this, there's been no discussion about having to have a set menu and I do understand that some venues need you to do this for bigger bookings but I don't know if this is the case here and apart from that I quite often order veggie options when out, especially in Asian restaurants. Am I being daft be really peeved about knowing that I am going to have to pay for a meal I wouldn't necessarily have ordered, whats more I seldom eat more than a main course & side anyway?

????

It could be that there will be a set menu, which normally has three choices for each course, and then you choose on the day.

Are you veggie? Are you wondering if there's only going to be one option so you have to eat the red onion and goats cheese tart again?

flowerybeanbag · 08/10/2010 11:36

You are daft about being peeved that there's a set menu. If you would like the veggie option just ask if they can put you down as a veggie.

SixtyFootDoll · 08/10/2010 11:37

YABU

ICant be bothered to say anymore than that

warthog · 08/10/2010 11:38

depends who's paying.

if they are, they'll need to fix costs and i think it's fine.

if you have to pay, well i could understand your annoyance.

i think there's a difference between a restaurant's set menu where you get a few choices and a set menu for a meal where there's ONLY a meat / veggie option. sounds like the latter in this case.

tbh i'm not sure i'd get that peeved about it. i'd just email and say you want the veggie option.

Not in the slightest. It's happened to me. DH's bossy bitch know it all sister ordered me paella once. I'd popped to the toilet with DD and came back to a plate of all kinds of fish. I don't, nor have I ever eaten fish in her presence so why she thought it's what I wanted I'll never know. I looked at it and refused to eat it. She had a strop and went home.

coraltoes · 08/10/2010 11:41

Um email back and ask for the veggie options?

YABU - they have booked the set menu not your actual meal.

Hullygully · 08/10/2010 11:43

Are you quite mad?

4thtimelucky · 08/10/2010 11:53

Alright, I am mad / daft then! Nuff said! What's annoyed me is the assumption that I will be having the non-veggie full set menu and paying for it when I wouldn't have chosen this.
I can't decline the invite - actually in this case I wouldn't.

Are you a veggie then? Have they forgotten?

I'm sure it will be fine for you to drop an email back or ring and say can they instead put you down for the veggie option.

Hullygully · 08/10/2010 11:58

So you are quibbling about a pudding? Would you normally, at a big family do, expect everyone to pay only for what they had had?

TrillianAstra · 08/10/2010 12:01

"Am I being unreasonable to have my meal chosen for me at family do?"

Er, I don't see how you could be unreasonable when you are not doing anything there.

Do you mean "Am I beung unreasonable to not want to have my meal chosen for me at family do?"?

4thtimelucky · 08/10/2010 12:02

actually just googled the restaurant and the only thing they do have is a set menu! I'll bugger off and finish the laundry now and stop whinging!
