to be too scared to fiddle with the Fbuttons?

I've just found the F5 button is my friend - it must save me seconds a week, not having to aim my cursor at the curly arrows. Grin

But I am not brave enough to fiddle with the others in case they lead to VeryBadThingsHappening.

Was thinking of putting a shout out to that un-paralysed one from Lost, but I thought I'd try the wisdom of wise MNetters instead.

Where do these magical squares lead me to?

I just came here type "F5 is my friend" ! yy, other buttons are a step into the unknown.

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 07/10/2010 21:49

Shall I try F1? Shall we work our way through them...? Shock [rebel]

Alambil · 07/10/2010 21:49

ooooh I fiddled

my f6 turns my screen off like a light going out!

ChasingSquirrels · 07/10/2010 21:50

f6 just highlighted the current address in my browser.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 07/10/2010 21:55

nonononono Not F1 - that's the scariest - leave it till we're braver.

lurking to see if we lose any of you.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 07/10/2010 22:02

I'm still here - too wussy to press. Grin

I spend what seems like half my working week taking screenshots for presentations.

So I love F11 because it saves me having to trim off the toolbars.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 07/10/2010 22:12

So we're safe to fiddle with that one then. Phew.

F10 highlights 'File'...no disaster here.

southeastastra · 07/10/2010 23:13

Grin i sometimes hit a button with a moon on it, i'm away for ages then

gapbear · 07/10/2010 23:13

Doing it with Mr Spoon?

ChaosTrulyReigns · 08/10/2010 00:19

I have just spend eons looking for a moon button on my laptop.

I'm all befuddled.

I like F12. It brings up the calendar. Press it again, it disappears.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 08/10/2010 08:51

Seenyer, we clearly have the same laptop. Mine is silver.
DD much more computer savvy than me, DH knows everything (IT teacher).
I haven't got a moon, but there is a sun icon on F2. Maybe if I press it I'll be whisked away to Mauritius or somewhere exotic.

SeriousWispaHabit · 08/10/2010 09:26

I've got a Mac although I can't really work it. I'm too scared to press any of them in case they are different and I email myself somewhere or delete the internet.

BecauseImWorthIt · 08/10/2010 09:30

Tsk. I've only got a battery icon on F2. No Mauritius for me, clearly.

piratecat · 08/10/2010 09:34

F11 scares me, it's only that i know i just have to press it again to be back to reality that I can stop flipping out.

QuizteamBleakley · 08/10/2010 09:37

Well, I've been robbed... My crappy Dell D620 does nowt when I press ALL the function buttons in turn, except F10 which made FILE light up. Do I need to press other buttons too? Dare I?!! I am "working from home" today...

Nuttybear · 08/10/2010 09:38

I'm too scared to join in... but a MN got me out of a pickle months ago whne I pressed a 'F' button Now I can't remeber which one?????? I think it took away all the toolbars to make the working screeen bigger.

Nutmums · 08/10/2010 09:39

What does F5 do exactly ??

Southwestwhippet · 08/10/2010 09:41

f7 does something to do with frames so that you can scroll down your page with the arrow keys or page up/page down with them.

I only know this because I pressed it by accident and spent the next month cursing my computer.
