To ask my local street cleaner to keep an eye out for my missing kitten?

Got distracted by the wallet but...

I saw the street cleaner earlier and asked him to keep an eye out for my missing kitten as after more than a week I'm really really concerned. He said "not my job love, I just pick up rubbish", what are you asking me for".

I was asking because he spends a lot of time walking about the local area and he may just see her :(

Seriously. This is an "AIBU"? ShockHmm

Bloodymary · 07/10/2010 12:12

Oh what a dick, you only asked him to 'keep an eye out'

SecretNutellaFix · 07/10/2010 12:14

she's been missing a week?Sad

He's being a dick.

YANBU - it's got nothing to do with his job - it's about him being nice - and it's no skin off his nose if he does see it and rings your bell to tell you. He sounds like a prat.

I hope you find your kitten, btw.

I think you would be better off phoning the waste dept. Our kitten went missing and I came to the sad conclusion that she'd run on the road and been killed. Refuse dept. confirmed this.

Sad Sadat missing kitten and Sad that there seems to be such an evaporation of community spirit these days.

I really hope you get her back.

That's rubbish, what an arse. Is she microchipped? It may be worth phoning your local vets and putting signs up there. We found one last week and it got back to it's owner that way.
Also- is there anyone in your area who has a habit of looking after strays? It's worth asking about, we have a lady round the corner who's always feeding strays and some times normal maoggies drift over there too

YANBU. Call the depot.
Also try

  • the local fire station (on non emergency number obviously) as they do get called out for cats up trees.
  • milk and news/Betterware/Kleeneze/Avon deliverers as they may have seen her on their rounds
  • vets as she may have been brought in
  • local RSPCA shelter however far away

I did all this and put signs up when my cat went missing.
I got loads of calls back included one which led to me finding her so it is worth it.

Hope you do get her back.

As soon as I read the words "missing kitten" I welled up. Is s/he microchipped. I echo asking the vet and putting up a notice in there, and also can you ask your local radio to ask listeners to keep an eye out. That's what we did when our five month year old kitten went missing - she was gone for a few days then walked back in as though nothing had happened.

Your street cleaner is an arsehole :(
