I often eat yogurt that's a month past the BB date... unless it's mouldy or smells rank, it's fine.

massivemammaries · 07/10/2010 17:25

we regularly use yoghurts that are a week or two past their sell by date and have done for years. I buy them up by the tray when they are selling them off. we are still alive and kicking.

as for the school saying they are not allowed to eat them, they could fuck right off! nothing to do with them at all

Caboodle · 07/10/2010 17:27

YANBU - or maybe I am...had just done the same thing for tomm's lunch in DS's lunchbag...will be 2 days out by tomm. Hey ho. Smile

TheNextMrsDepp · 07/10/2010 17:28

OP, you are having a laugh. A DAY out of date, and you're worried? A YOGURT?

Is you?

Quenelle · 07/10/2010 17:29

Do you remember that TV show when the fella ate food past its use by date? On day 1 he ate something one day over, and so on until on day 7 he cooked and ate chicken that was 7 days out of date. He's my hero. Shame I can't remember his name though.

I made my uber-risk-averse DH watch it with his eyelids taped open.

whiteflame · 07/10/2010 17:35

squonk, that sounds really annoying! how the hell did the teacher notice? i can't imagine her having time to check 30 lunchboxes that closely!!

womblingfree · 07/10/2010 17:35

Squonk - I had the same thing at my dd's school - you don't live in West Sussex do you?

gapbear · 07/10/2010 17:51

My children regularly have yoghurts well past their sell-by / use-by dates - because I freeze them. I get those squeezy tube ones (often reduced because short dated) and they're still cold by lunchtime - much nicer than warm yoghurt.

Caboodle · 07/10/2010 18:24

Ooooh good idea gapbear.

SlightlyJaded · 07/10/2010 18:42

a day late is as good as still in date, in our house. YANBU

I accidentally gave an out of date yoghurt to a visiting child last week. Blush Should I have 'fessed up to him mum when she picked him up? (Didn't get any reports of illness tho)

Marrow · 08/10/2010 11:06

I sent my DD to school with a yoghurt which was a few days out of date. When I picked her up her teacher came to have a chat to me and said "I'm sure you probably didn't notice etc, etc..." They didn't let DD eat her yoghurt which upset her. Didn't dare admit to teacher that I knew full well it was past its date! Blush
