It's been six days since he had the snip, and all he's done is lie around in his pants with a bag of frozen mince pressed to his conkers. It's healing up nicely. Is this likely to go on much longer? I want him to go back to work.

(yes, I may sound a bit callous, but I didn't get to lounge around after birthing an 11lb baby with my episiotomy stitches)

It is 'Man Pain'. And like 'Man Flu' it is exponentially worse than the female equivalents. Invite neighbours around to laugh at his chilled conkers..... now that Norman Wisdom has passed on we need new comedy stars.

Really? 6 days?

DH has been thinking of it and his mate had it done one lunchtime, had the afternoon off and was back at work the next day.

If I have to put up with him 'poorly' for six days our marriage could pretty well be over.

My DH said that if it had been anywhere else on his body then he wouldn't have given it a second thought.

Mind you he caught a nice food-poisoning bug the day he had the op so he did have other things on his mind.

other than one friend who had a bad infection, they all seemed to go back to work quite soon. Has he seen the GP to check its OK if it is hurting after 6 weeks?

DH took the afternoon off, worked from home the next day and then back to normal. He had keyhole surgery.

And ... don't even think about eating that mince

I do wonder. I was doing better than that after a c-section.

Vasectomy can be tender I've heard but I didn't think it was that sore.

But only you know!

My boss was back to work within 48 hours. I think he needs to go to the GP for some ritual humiliation

He went to the GP today - she told him it was inflamed, but not infected. If he asks me to check his bruising again, I'm going to take a photo and post it on Facebook.

If this goes on much longer, I'll be using it to make spaghetti bollocknese.

If he's not got an infection, which the doctor established he hasn't, he's taking the piss.

I'm trying to remember how long my DH was incapacitated (long time ago!!) but I suspect the fact that they "dangle" makes it difficult to walk about.

Don't remember him being laid up for 6 days though - but everyone's different so maybe he is has very deep bruising internally?

Not sure if YABU or YANBU to be honest - he doesn't have an infection or anything?

he is sooo taking the piss!! 6 days is loads of recovery time for that.

In his defence (well slightly ) As an ex nurse who used to have to staff a vas clinic - some men do suffer continuing pain for an extended period afterwards. It would be worth getting him in to see his GP however he may find if he starts to remobilise and do normal things again the pain (probably related to some swelling) eases as his circulation improves. There are some men who have continual chronic pain for a long time post vasectomy. So YANBU but he might NBU either

he's very rarely poorly enough to take time off - as a contracter, he doesn't get sick pay, so he drags himself in. Hoping he'll be fit tomorrow.

Hmmm... caesarean on the Monday morning. Morphine jabs for the pain, totally incapacitated. Back home with new baby and 19 month old by the Thursday afternoon. Told to take paracetamol if I needed it. Didn't.

Hoovered entire three bed house on the Friday.

Yep! He's taking the piss.

Sorry Xposted he has seen GP - still if it is inflamed after 6 days he may still be in discomfort

Inflamed - I'd give him the benefit of the doubt, by tomorrow he might be infected. Dont heap on the sympathy (just in case) but give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

It could be worse. A friend of mine has a husband who had a routine hernia repair. He NEVER went back to work.

But he was a massive knobhead in so many ways.

He may be in discomfort. Discomfort isnt an excuse to lie around like a big girls blouse though

Incidentally DH said the worst thing about the whole op was the smell of burning...nice!

ivantaouioui it used to be quite fun really - lots of normally confident men feeling very insecure! They all used to wear yellow dressing gowns over theatre gown plus little blue plastic overshoes - they looked like little ducks as they all walked down to the theatre waiting area!! They all used to sit in a row waiting for those on front to be "done" - very sweet really!

He's taking the piss. DH had hernia repair (open surgery and was home next morning and back at work the followingday. I had DS2 by c-section at 9.30am and was home the next afternoon running round after a 1yr old.

If he's at home for an extended period he needs to start doing housework - nothing exciting like hoovering but dusting/polishing/washing up etc etc
