I think Cher was looking and sounding so fragile because she had tonsillitis, kylesmybaby. I am a singer, and have sung with a sore throat, and I have had quinsy (which is like tonsillitis) and fwiw, I think she sang as much as she could, and then literally had NO voice left.

It really hurts even to talk with tonsillitis, so her talking slowly is not a surprise for me.
