Am I being unreasonable to be gob smacked at the comment from an middle aged man at work last night!!!

Conversation went Hello from me then the reply I got back was 'have you put on weight you look like you have'!!!!!!

Mine and my workmates response was to stand there mouths wide open!! Could not think of a reply was that insulted and shocked!!

what is it with people (strangers) who think they can make personal comments like that!

My own MIL said exactly the same thing, the second time I ever met her. YANBU but at least he wasn't related to you.

Perhaps he is on the autistic spectrum- I have taught children with aspergers who often asked this type of question or said they didn't like my hair/ shoes / clothes etc. but they weren't meaning to be rude, and because I knew them I didn't take it this way.

Young people with ASD can be helped to recognise what are acceptable 'social interactions' but this might not be the case for older people whose condition may not have been diagnosed.

Or maybe he was just v v rude.

I think my dad can hold his own in a tactless competition. Think he is quite looking forward to being old and cantankerous!

Met up with my parents yesterday and my dad greated me with 'Hiya fat lass' and it carried on from there! (I'm 6mths pregnant lol)
