to think a tummy bug should last days, not weeks?

I even did a pregnancy test today to rest my mind.

DH came down with a bug several weeks ago. Its a "slow burner"...okay so he did vomit several times one night but was ill with strange pains, cramps, wind etc for a good week before, had various troubles for a good week after and still isn't 100%

I have been suffering with nausea (though no actual vomiting), really bad wind (TMI sorry), cramps, lethargy, lack of appetite, the whole lot for about 2 weeks now.

I'd rather just be violently ill for 12 hours, sleep the next day, and wake bright eyed and bushy tailed with a raging appetite on day 3.

Has anyone else had this? Is it "going round". Or am I just lucky?

You're right. A 'tummy bug' shouldn't last weeks and if it's still going on you should see your doctor. There are all kinds of reasons for adominal cramps etc. Some less benevolent than others. Go see your GP

That is so weird. Was just discussing this with my friend today and saying that if I didn't know better I would think I was pregnant. I am thinking about going to the doctor as I have been nauseous for a couple of weeks now. I am 'off' food and am finding strong smells are making me gag. Yuck!

My DF has had EXACTLY the same thing but hadn't said anything as it coincided with her rather over doing the wine at a lunch party. It lasted 2-3 weeks with her. I am now on my second week and all I want to do is lie on the sofa with a blanket.

hi sloanypony, we are all suffering from some sort of tummy bug at the moment
DH is now into week 2 and i have been ill for 1 week - have heard of someone else who was 4 weeks the other day

hope you all feel better soon

shongololo · 02/10/2010 21:32

i would go be checked in case its salmonella or campylobacter, both of which can last a while.

BetsyBoop · 02/10/2010 21:34

there is definitely something doing the rounds at the moment. I'm just about coming out the other side after 5 weeks, DH is about 3 weeks in & still feeling crap. Nausea, lethargy, shivers, lack of appetite, abdominal cramps, dull headache, achy bones....

I was at the point of thinking "it can't be a bug after 4 weeks, there must be something wrong with me, I'll have to go to the GP", when I started feekling better...

sloanypony · 02/10/2010 21:35

Oh thanks people. Sorry to drip feed, but went to GP, was told I must have a bug and sent on my way so figure it probably is, and unless things detiriorate or go on for several more weeks, will just ride it out.

I just wish it could go, already.

Agree with lying on sofa with a blankie. That's all I want to do!

I threw up all night on Tuesday, felt crap Wednesday, bit less crap Thursday and Friday, fine today and now tonight I feel a bit sick again. I put it down to DH languishing with man-flu and dragging me down but perhaps it's still the bug. Can't face eating properly either.

sloanypony · 02/10/2010 21:41

I've had sod all appetite for what seems like ages. THE SCALES LOVE ME Grin

I ate 3 crisps before and said, no way.
One piece of chocolate ginger (which felt really good actually but I didn't want any more)

Its weird. Normally I'm salivating like a rabid dog when meal times arrive.

That is the plus-side, I've tightened a whole belt notch!

poppymouse · 02/10/2010 22:14

I lost half a stone! Off my food, felt exhausted and nauseous. Doc (at the walk in clinic mark you) gave me a sample bottle and told me to take a sample and drop it in at the clinic if it didn't clear up. He said get onto that dioralyte and keep at it, he reckoned you can't really have too much. It comes in raspberry now.

pressyourthumbs · 02/10/2010 23:57

When I had a tummy bug for weeks, after I came home from my holiday, it turned out to be salmonella.

cumfy · 03/10/2010 00:10

Sounds a bit of a bastard. Hope you get better.

GP will probably give you a couple of sample bottles!
