Not to spend an 20 minutes driving round in circles because he couldnt understand my directions, he didnt have a clue where he was going. Seriously.

He then (by pointing at the meter) tried to charge me extra for the privelige.

I told him where to stick it and knocked £1 off what I usually pay for my wasted time.

Indeed! Grin

But she wasn't that pissed, and people didn't assume it was wine anyway. Plus, even when pissed, no for know?

The first page, people were just taking the piss of bad spelling and grammar. Which has nothing to do with someone not being able to do their job because they can't communicate, but people just used it to rip the pis.

MrsYamada · 02/10/2010 22:16

It was Friday, it was fun. Chill.

JaneS · 02/10/2010 22:19

Precisely, MrsY.

Apple, sorry, I'm not even sure if you're trying to defend the OP or be snooty about her spelling, or if there's some obscure higher cause you're going after. Personally, I took the mickey (in a sense of fun), because I thought the OP was tipsy and I could sympathize. I'd make that mistake, easily, and I am disgustingly literate. OP came back, said she'd felt scared and alone, and people apologized for reading her wrongly.

It's a pretty simple story.

JaneS · 02/10/2010 22:20

(And ... um ... yes, loads of people assumed it was wine. Read the thread over.)

Appletrees · 02/10/2010 22:45

littlered: a lot of people were taking the piss out of her and calling her a twat because she spelled badly -- I've seen it before on mn and I think it's low, incredibly low

And ..um.. no, people didn't think it was wine until she said so. No one said it, and I certainly think they would have done if the thought had occurred.

JaneS · 02/10/2010 22:59

Sorry, I am really slow tonight (must be the wine, eh?) ... are you trying to suggest we're all mean to take the mickey when someone tells us she's pissed and makes an unintentional clanger? Or are you trying to pretend that only the uneducated ever make mistakes in spelling and grammar, and slating the OP for doing so?

edam · 02/10/2010 23:17

apple, people were pointing out the irony of someone making their own mistakes while complaining about another person's bad English.

TrillianAstra · 02/10/2010 23:19

Because it's funny.

Sorry, but if you are unintentionally hilarious people will be distracted by the comedy and comment less on the actual point you are trying to make.

mathanxiety · 02/10/2010 23:50

In fact, the unintentional hilarity may have saved us all from a horribly exhausting racism bunfight. There's always a silver lining.
