Not to spend an 20 minutes driving round in circles because he couldnt understand my directions, he didnt have a clue where he was going. Seriously.

He then (by pointing at the meter) tried to charge me extra for the privelige.

I told him where to stick it and knocked £1 off what I usually pay for my wasted time.

You could have just written the address down, if he seemed not to understand you, no? It works on holiday.

BoppitChamp · 01/10/2010 22:14

I'd been to the pub after work, didn't have pen, paper etc.

Even in my drunkeness I realised we were way out, not his fault really but annoying still, I didn't ask for the scenic route Hmm

You were slurring your words, weren't you?Grin

YABU.

TrillianAstra · 01/10/2010 22:15

That's not a mis-spelling, it's a serious misunderstanding of how words work.

BoppitChamp · 01/10/2010 22:20

But one which hasn't been repeated.

I'm sure I'll recover from it Wink

TrillianAstra · 01/10/2010 22:22

Hi BoF :)

I suppose you could have gone for 'no we're their going' just to complete the set Grin

BoppitChamp · 01/10/2010 22:34

And I may or may not have been ever so slightly intoxicated.

Even more annoying because it's the taxi drivers job to deliver me sensibly when i'm incapable Grin

jameelaq · 01/10/2010 22:51

Not nowadays I'm afraid. Nothing works

JaneS · 01/10/2010 23:33

'But one which hasn't been repeated'.

Grin

Nuff said.

MaMoTTaT · 02/10/2010 05:20

oh my word - I haven't slept a wink tonight due to insomnia and a restless DS

But this thread has had me crying with laughter

I loved

"driving round in circles because he couldnt understand my directions,"

"places blame firmly on alcohol consumption"

do you recon the two are connected? "

My God, is it acceptable these days to make fun of someone who hasn't been well educated these days? Should be ashamed of yourselves.

OP yes, he should have known where he was going or he should have told you he didn't

no, he shouldn't have charged you for his fault in not knowing where he was going

people are taking the piss because they think your comment about not understanding English makes you look racist

Appletrees · 02/10/2010 05:34

We've had this before, someone who was trying to help a child with their reading, and said she wanted to help "learn her to read better". She had the piss royally ripped out of her.

MaMoTTaT · 02/10/2010 05:38

WTF are you on about Appletrees??

The OP was pissed (she said so herself).

People are taking the piss because the OP was pissed and make a pretty awful typo (or 3) in her title

mathanxiety · 02/10/2010 05:56

ehem, BoppitChamp, that's 'deliver me capably when I'm insensible', surely?

AlpinePony · 02/10/2010 06:03

YANBU. :( I caught a taxi in Brussels two years ago - the driver had no sat-nav and didn't speak French or Dutch (the cities two languages). I had to give directions to Gare de nord and as he'd spent so fucking long finding me in the first place I caught the last train of the night (90 minute journey) by an arse=hair. :(

echt · 02/10/2010 06:26

AHEM - I declare Boppitchamp the most gracious receiver of so many, well grounded YABUs.

I have had drink myself, and read the OP's name as Bobbitchamp, so thought she was a bit of a knobchopper.

English teachers, eh? They can't fecking read.

To Appletrees:

a) It's absolutely fair enough to pick up on bad grammar and spelling (esp in the context of this OP as it was hilarious) because spelling and grammar does and bloody well should matter

b) I cannot stand OPs about foreigners not being able to speak English properly. Yes it does tickle my racist radar. Not because it's racist to feel frustrated when someone cannot understand you or communciate with you, but because when you post about it, it seems to be inviting certain responses and imo is inflammatory.

c) You have now insulted OP by stating she is not well educated...!

d) The OP was pissed

e) I really hope I haven't made any grammatical or spelling mistakes in this reply

nope piss-taking started well before pissedness admission

"Yes it does tickle my racist radar. ..imo is inflammatory."

proud -- why not come out and say it then

MrsYamada · 02/10/2010 09:01

I felt picking up on the grammar was fair game because the OP made such a thing about the taxi-drivers lack of English. I wouldn't normally take the piss out of someone for that kind of thing.

caramelwaffle · 02/10/2010 09:06

Grin Very funny thread.

Although I did think the OP may actually have been North American re: "meter"

Appletrees · 02/10/2010 09:09

And I agree, grammar and spelling matter. I'm a right pedant. Poor grammar and spelling don't make someone a "twat x 10" however.
