to not buy a christening present

My OH's relative's baby is being christened at the weekend. They had the christening arranged for about a year ago but had to cancel I had bought a present for first christening but because of lack of space, moving house etc decided baby might as well just have it rather than wait for christening to be reorganised so gave it to a relative to pass on (we very rarely see each other just weddings/christenings/funerals etc!).

Now christening is this weekend I have bought a card but am in two minds about present. I can't afford anything substantial or keepsake like so would just be a £5 toy or book or something. Am I right in feeling that they would probably rather not have more 'junk' what with having four kids and christmas and the christening babies birthday looming?!

I think YANBU.
You've already bought a present for them.

I'm sure they didn't invite you just to bring presents, but to share in the day.

A card should suffice.

You've already given them a present, plus I don't particularly agree with christening presents anyway unless you are close family/godparents or whatever. We buy presents when they are born, birthdays, christmas...when does it stop? I am not religious but surely Christenings are not about presents?

YANBU.

A card and a cuddle will do!

There's only room for so many silver plated trinkets and money boxes in anyone's life! Smile

You already got a present. Don't bother getting another one.

thanks I thought I was not being unreasonable but that little niggly feeling that everyone will be thinking we are tight/cheeky for not getting a present just wouldn't go away! I shall go armed with my card and a cuddle and my head held high!
