To either take the phone off the hook or scream down the phone at these people ?

For the last 4 months we have been receiving weird phone calls from a foreign man & woman who claim to be from " online PC care" Hmm they can ring my home phone number up to 3 times a day . After months of telling them to stop ringing me & that i have no intention of giving them control of my PC to check for any problems & reporting them to my phone company they have started to request reverse call charges from us Angry. I just hang up now the second i hear the music & pause before they speak but its very annoying . Should i scream down the phone some obscenities or not bother. Phone company say they are receiving lots of complaints but there's nothing they can do .

Put the receiver down and walk away (possibly to pour a drink), its their call and their money.
I do know that it is tempting too scream obscenities, but the silent treatment is far more effective!

either do as Bloodymary suggests, or keep a loud whistle by the phone, and blow it loudly at them.

Ooh i like both of those suggestions Grin Can i do both ? Go for a drink first then come back & blow a whistle lol .

I've heard that it's effective to set a chatty toddler on them, provided your chatty toddler does not know your credit card number.

My Granddad used to do that - put the receiver down and occasionally pick it up to see if they were still there...giving them false hope!

You could get an answerphone (if you don't have one already) I find this stops them in their tracks.

No toddlers here anymore , youngest is 4.9 .
No answerphone either but might look into one . Thanks

If you are leaving them waiting while you have a cup of tea don't forget to go back every so often and tell them how important their call is to you

Get a dictaphone by the phone. Prerecord a message along the lines of "To speak to the home owner, press 1 or please hold" followed by elevator music. Then when they phone press play. I always hand the phone over to my 7 yeah old. They soon sod off once he starts on about super mario.

I was getting this so re registered with TPS - on last occasion this happened I answerd with "I will report to TPS" and so far no further calls

elmofan · 29/09/2010 19:31

Ooh you are all so much more devious than i am lol Grin . God help them when they phone here again.

Buy a whistle and blow it down the phone, they will soon fuck off..Grin

fedupwithdeployment · 29/09/2010 19:35

Only prob with TPS is that it doesn't work for companies registered abroad. I used to get a lot of pre-recorded calls from (I think) the US saying I'd won a holiday / flat etc in Florida.
