to think that neighbours pudding dog shit on my car was a bit out of order?

We have a dog. we always clear up after her. She does occasionally get out and go for a bit of a wander by herself - she wanders out of the front door and is gone for about two minutes before she realises that we're not going with her and she comes back.

It is, I suppose, possible that on one of these occasions she may have pooed somewhere inappropriate and obviously we have not cleared it up because we don't know about it, but extremely unlikely. Now that the thought has crossed my mind I will be much more careful with making sure she doesn't get out.

Yesterday morning we went to the car and someone has placed dog shit on the roof.

We live in a very small community and I thought that I was friendly enough with all of the neighbours that if they did have an issue with my dog shitting somewhere they would come and speak to me. I also didn't think that anyone disliked us enough to do this out of malice.

I am really quite upset by this - if it is a protest about my dog, why can't they tell me that there's an issue, because it's certainly not something I'm aware of. If it's just nasty, what does that say about our small "friendly" village?

any words of wisdom or AIBU to think that this is not acceptable behaviour?

putting obviously, a pudding of dogshit would be really bad!

Poledra · 29/09/2010 11:44

Are you sure your dog hasn't just shimmied up the side of the car then pooped on the roof?

Seriously, it's pretty unpleasant, unless you are a serial offender for leaving dog poo around, and the person has spoken to you about it before. Personally, I'd rather go get the owner to clear it up than go to the bother of lifting it myself to put on top of the car.

How are you, apart from the Phantom Dog Poo Flinger?

RunforFun · 29/09/2010 11:47

YANBU. That is most definitely not acceptable behaviour.

What kind of sneaky two faced person would creep up in the dead of night (presumably) to do that rather than have a go to your face ?

A coward. Thats what they are.

Try not to let itt get to you , but equally make sure for definite that the dog doesnt get out alone again.

VivaLeBeaver · 29/09/2010 11:48

I suppose some people aren't very good at discussing things face to face. If they don't know you well they could be worried that it may all turn into a big confrontation. Do you suspect which neighbours it is?

Also your dog may not be the only one doing this, one of your neighbours could be having it happen frequently to them and now may think its your dog all the time. They may think that you don't care what your dog does.

We have a neighbour opposite who couldn't be bothered to walk their dog and every night just let the dog outside to wander up the road crapping everyhwere. Dog's dead now but it was horrible. Wish I'd thought of putting the crap on their car as they did deserve it.

rastababi · 29/09/2010 11:50

YABU. Your dog, your responsibility, no buts or ifs sorry.

OK admittedly putting it on your car was uncalled for I'll agree with that.

This happens all the time in our village, it's utterly disgusting. The pavements are constantly covered in dog poo every single day. This morning, there was a huge mess that covered the area of about 1 square meter directly in front of my neighbors house and covering the depth of the pavement forcing myself and my 4 and 2 year old to walk on the main road.

If I ever caught the culprit I'd gladly rub it in their faces let alone their car.

Blu · 29/09/2010 11:51

The possibility that it could be a silent comment from a member of your community is upsetting - maybe put a notice on your car saying you are very sorry if your dog did commit an indiscrection, and you would welcome knowing if this has been happening.

But it could possibly have been norty teens up to a revolting prank and not personal at all.

fryalot · 29/09/2010 11:53

The thing is - it's such a small village and we've lived here for years, as have all our neighbours, they do know me!

We're deffo not serial offenders - it is possible it has happened once or twice (seriously no more, it couldn't even be possible) but the point about perhaps others' dogs are doing it and ours is getting all the blame is a valid one - although I haven't noticed much poo around when I walk her, so it doesn't seem to be an issue round here really.

The really bad thing, though, is that no, we don't have a particular neighbour to suspect, it could be any of them... it's not a nice feeling to know that someone dislikes you so much to do this, but you don't know who - they're all very nice to my face.

poledra - am fine, thank you Grin

fryalot · 29/09/2010 11:55

rastababi - I agree, I made the point that it is possible that my dog could have pooed somewhere, but this really is VERY unlikely as she has got out twice in her life and been out of my sight for literally seconds. And if she did do an indiscreet poo in the tiny amount of time she was out of my view it has been an absolute maximum of twice. In many years. My neighbours have all seen my cleaning it up.

Blu - I have the only teenager and it wasn't her.

I stood in a huge pile of dog shit whilst wearing open sandals once Angry

If i'd have caught the owners of that dog, the car roof would have been the least of their worries, i'd have piled it on their head.

People who don't pick up their dogs shit disgust me, they are disgusting people.

People who let their dogs get out frequently are idiots.

If the dogshit on your roof makes you more careful than good, there must be more to what you're saying for a person to go to the extreme of putting shit on your car ??

fryalot · 29/09/2010 11:58

Apocolypse - she got out TWICE.

I don't really understand your comment about being more careful than good - I will make BLOODY sure she doesn't get out, just in case on one of the occasions she got out she did a poo without me realising it.

I will be careful to make sure she doesn't get out because I am ALWAYS good when she is with me.

OP posts:
Tippychoocks · 29/09/2010 12:01

I bet one neighbour has seen her poo once and now blames her for all the crap in the vilage Grin. Not nice to feel that someone is creeping around leaving piles of shit on yuor stuff though.

rastababi · 29/09/2010 12:02

I can see your point but the bottom line is that it could well have been your dog that crapped on the floor and it wasn't cleaned up. To me, once is too many times.

Sorry, it's nothing personal to you, it really isn't, but having to live with this problem every single day I really don't see any excuse for it.

fryalot · 29/09/2010 12:04

I would like to point out that I don't know that she has pooed anywhere. I wanted to be as honest as possible and say that it is, just about, possible that she could have. If I had suspected at the time that she had pooed, I would have gone out immediately and cleared it up.

When we go for a walk, we leave the house, turn left and go down a passage next to the house. Dog usually runs on ahead and waits at the corner for us.

On the two occasions she has got out, I've been going somewhere else and she thought we were going for a walk so ran off. She had just enough time to get to the corner where she normally waits for us and get back. No time to do a poo.

It is possible because she was out of my sight for about ten seconds, but extremely unlikely.

I have nothing to add to this, I just wanted to post on a thread with "pudding dog shit" in the title Grin

fryalot · 29/09/2010 12:07

zachary - Grin I think we should leave it there Smile

OP posts:
hatwoman · 29/09/2010 12:07

of course it's unacceptable. however try not to be upset - ONE person did this (or possibly a small group of stupid teens like blu suggests) so you don't need to let it undermine the fact that, to date, you see the village and neighbours as friendly - they still are. (Having said that I too would feel upset and shaken - it's such an unpleasant thing.) I would do nothing more than make 100 per cent sure there is no possibility at all for the dog to do anything you don't see and clear up. I'd also keep an eye out for other dog owners leaving dug turd around in case you're getting the blame for someone else's. If something like this happens again - and you KNOW you have been scrupulous - then I'd think about some form of reaction...possibly a (calm) note on the car, possibly mentioning it to neighbours, possibly calling the council re the dog turds on the pavement and possibly, tbh, the police - if only to have it on record. but I'd only do any of that if there was a repeat

fryalot · 29/09/2010 12:09

hatwoman - thank you, that makes a lot of sense.

OP posts:
ApocalypseFlangePop · 29/09/2010 12:09

Seriously, I don't believe it was only twice, you must have form for this.

We had a phantom crapper on our street, we all knew who it was, eventually the guy from the end of the road had, had enough.

One morning he went out with a bag, collected each and every pile of dog shit he could find and left it on her doorstep for her to find when she came back from her 6am walk.

Job done.

fryalot · 29/09/2010 12:12

apocolypse - it was twice.

we don't let her out on her own. Never. Twice I have been going somewhere else and she ran out when I opened the door, thinking I was taking her out. She came back within seconds and I carried on my way. I was probably going the way she had gone (not definite, can't remember, but probably) and would have noticed any steaming curly ones on the pavement.

I am not a serial offender, I just wanted to be honest that it is, however slim the possibility, possible that this has happened once or maybe (stretching it a bit further) twice.

So, if you believe that I am not a serial offender and you accept my version, AIBU or not?

OP posts:
hatwoman · 29/09/2010 12:14

squonk - jut read your more recent posts - it really doesn;t sound like you're any sort of poo offender. I have a dog - and I know that there's no way, in the circumstances you describe, mine could have squeezed one out without me knowing. I also live in a village and know how tight and difficult that can make things and really sympathise. I'd still recommend doing nothing - unless there's a repeat. (The one thing that may be worth doing is noting this in your diary - possibly with details you might forget - like where you were yesterday, when the car was parked, what time you discovered the poo. etc just in case).

scepticalface · 29/09/2010 12:14

I once passed a pile of dog poo in Stonehaven, Aberdeen with a little cocktail stick and a penant sticking out of it saying 'left here by brown dog on afternoon of .....) Someone with time on their hands - labelling poos seems a little drastic but at least it was still on the ground.

Mishy1234 · 29/09/2010 12:15

I hate dog shit on the streets as much as anyone, but I think to put it on your car was really underhand and nasty.

YANU to be upset. Whoever has an issue should have spoken to you about it.

Hedgeblunder · 29/09/2010 12:16

I know this has been said but you're going to have to keep a closer eye on the pooch, I get fed up of finding dogs in our neighbourhood and dragging them home because I'm a softie and worry they'll get hit by a car.
It sounds like someone is a serial offender (not necessarily you) and someone else has had enough.
Tbh, I don't understand how you haven't noticed your dog has escaped? Unless you've got a lovely big house and a small dog- we've got a lab so they're pretty unmissable!

VivaLeBeaver · 29/09/2010 12:17

The person who did this probably did it in the heat of the moment and could well be kicking themsselves now.

Sounds like the sort of thing my DH would do to be honest. We have a neighbour who can be a bit of a loud mouth prat but we maintain good relations with him and have never fallen out. He came in our garden one day when we were out and used our hosepipe to unblock his sewer, so our hosepipe was coverd with his shit and bog paper. I had to stop DH feeding the hosepipe through his letterbox!

fryalot · 29/09/2010 12:20

hedgeblunder - I did notice. I called her back and she came back within seconds. I only mentioned it because there are two occasions that she has been out of my sight for a very short space of time.

If the dog was regularly walking the streets on her own, I could understand it a bit better, of course I can't pick up all the crap she could do in a day's wandering - and if I was going to wander the village picking up various dog poos I may as well walk the fecking dog in the first place!
