to think that neighbours pudding dog shit on my car was a bit out of order?

We have a dog. we always clear up after her. She does occasionally get out and go for a bit of a wander by herself - she wanders out of the front door and is gone for about two minutes before she realises that we're not going with her and she comes back.

It is, I suppose, possible that on one of these occasions she may have pooed somewhere inappropriate and obviously we have not cleared it up because we don't know about it, but extremely unlikely. Now that the thought has crossed my mind I will be much more careful with making sure she doesn't get out.

Yesterday morning we went to the car and someone has placed dog shit on the roof.

We live in a very small community and I thought that I was friendly enough with all of the neighbours that if they did have an issue with my dog shitting somewhere they would come and speak to me. I also didn't think that anyone disliked us enough to do this out of malice.

I am really quite upset by this - if it is a protest about my dog, why can't they tell me that there's an issue, because it's certainly not something I'm aware of. If it's just nasty, what does that say about our small "friendly" village?

any words of wisdom or AIBU to think that this is not acceptable behaviour?

scrappydappydoo - no, I don't know that it's got anything at all to do with my dog.

I kind of hope (in a way) that she has pooed somewhere and someone has put it there for that reason - or as others have said that someone else's dog has and ours is getting blamed for it.

Because the alternative is that one of our neighbours hates us.

Which is an even worse thought Sad

I am a good neighbour, you can borrow my garden tools, I will give you a lift, take in a parcel BUT you have to except my garden is my property and your cats are to keep out of it. If I know who owns the cat I will have a word, if you ignore my warning then all bets are off and the bricks will be used. I dont want cat crap in my garden and I dont want plants dug up.

One cat owning neighbour suggested a string of solutions to keep cats out, when I asked her to pay for them all I got was a shocked look.

Greensleeves · 30/09/2010 14:19

I would not have put it on your car

however dog owners, even the goiod ones, can be just too fucking blase about dog shit - it isn't a slightly embarrassing smelly mishap, it's a filthy disgusting toxic hazard

and there is far, far too much of it

so if your dog has been out and you don't know whether she has done a shit in a public place, then IMO that is unacceptable

when you buy a dog you have to be able to look into its eyes and say "I solemnly undertake to personally pick up every single scrap of stinking excrement that falls out of your arse between now and the day you die - and that includes going home to fetch a bucket of bleach and a scrubbing brush when you have the runs"

otherwise I am afraid you are a twat and no wonder your neighbours are angry

Dare I ask how a cat owner can keep a cat out of someone's garden, short of keeping them indoors or walking them on a leads (incidentally, both of which I tried with NO success?)

I have a cat- I have a litter tray indoors and part of the garden allocated to try to stop her from pooping in anyone else's garden. I haven't seen her doing it anywhere else and no neighbours have complained but if anyone threw bricks at her I'd be contacting the police and rspca pretty quickly.

OP, YANBU and I hope it was just a prank. You sound like a responsible dog owner to me.

Mooos · 30/09/2010 14:30

Did it look like your dog's poo?

Mooos · 30/09/2010 14:34

Newwave - I'm with you on bloody cats shitting in my garden. They never shit in their owners' gardens do they? I used to fling it back over the fence with the garden trowel. The cats used to look terrified when they saw me as they knew I was after them (stones, water etc etc) but they still bloody did it.

Surely it is your responsibility to keep your pets under control, no doubt if you see a dog crapping on the pavement without the owner picking it up you will be outraged but you have no problem with feline shit machines wandering where they will to have a dump.

As for the Police I doubt that they will put it at the top of their priorities and the RSPCA would have to prove it. Anyway it is an offence to cause suffering, if I am on target it wont suffer at all as it will be dead.

Moos :)

I have thought about borrowing or buying an air rifle but it semmed unfair because with my aim with a brick the cat has a 50/50 chance which seems more sporting

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 30/09/2010 14:59

It's a bit nasty isn't it?

Mind you I once went out to my car and found a human poo on my bonnet. Which was nice.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 30/09/2010 15:01

And before you ask how I could tell:

  1. it was huge
  2. you could see foot prints on the bonnet, too.
arfasleep · 30/09/2010 15:07

Hmm, YANBU, but whoever did it maybe thinks, unreasonably, that it was your dog. If that happened to us, we have dog & cat (brazen smiley), think I would prob ask neighbours if they saw anything, to find out & also to, excuse the pun, spread it about that, no, its not our dog that poo's everywhere. My mum has neighbours whose dogs do just that, my ds, I & DP have all stepped in it at some point, I'm sure, & when I walk my dog up that street I do get dirty looks (because it is a problem) even tho its not my dog that does it.

Fimbo · 30/09/2010 15:14

Are you sure it was dog poo?

Sir32767 · 02/11/2010 21:08

Funnily enough I've had this with a neighbour, I have one outdoor cat which MAY occasionally leave cat poo in someones garden, although she is very clean and always buries it to my knowledge, also there are many cats around here.

This has been going on for about a year now, it is always after dark, between 7+8:30pm, I have yet to catch who it is. There have been no complaints or arguements with neighbours, I find it more bizarre than anything.

Similarly to the above situation, this person is sneaky and doesn't want to get caught, I'm thinking of installing CCTV to find out who it is first, then maybe demand a sum of money not to hand it to the police, I don't know yet...

Just to clairfy - I don't have a dog, and this is definitely dog poo, wrapped in tissue and thrown towards my backdoor through the gap in the gate (which is locked). If I were to quickly come out the back door, they could easily be caught as this is 1-2x a week usually mon, tue, fri or sat.

AnyFuleKno · 02/11/2010 21:11

what made you start this thread up again

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 02/11/2010 21:20

I'm with Greensleeves on this one.

I have returned dog poo to the door step of it's owner (well, the owner's owner), and don't feel in the slightest bit guilty. If I ever manage to catch the cat who craps in my front garden, I shall do the same.

I know it was only a couple of times, for a couple of minutes, but you really have to be able to account for every shit your dog has. I regularly see dog owners round here with their dogs off the leads a good distance away - they have no way of knowing if their dog has crapped or not.

That being said, I wouldn't have deposited it on the roof of your car (maybe Wink)
