because the idiots at the school in Jamie's American Food Revolution thought that potatoes count as a vegetable?!

therefore concluding that a beige meal of chicken burger with fries (salad optional which virtually nobody had) was healthier than stir fry with 7 different vegetables?

ok so I didn't actually shout, as that would've woken DD up Hmm - but seriously. these people are in charge of the health of the city's children and they are doing it wrong

:( Angry

I think as an edible plant (or plant with edible parts) a potato IS considered a vegetable..? What would you be classing it as?
So that might might BU. The rest of obviously not so U!

I was amazed...

the logic is just totally absent in her argument! I would not have been able to not laugh in her face if I was Jamie; he just looked utterly perplexed

"there's not a cup and a fourth of veg in your line....." and there is in chicken burger and CHIPS???!! She didn't even LISTEN to his ingredients in the stir fry

Algebra18MinusPiEquals16 · 28/09/2010 09:43

well yes they are vegetables but they count as a carbohydrate.

carrots are have a high carb content as well. Most root veg do.

Algebra18MinusPiEquals16 · 28/09/2010 10:20

yes, but in terms of 5-a-day potatoes don't count whereas things like carrot do. I seem to remember it's because of the starchiness and lack of other nutrients?

Potatoes are actually a good source of minerals, vitamins and starch.

And they're a vegetable too! Smile

OrmRenewed · 28/09/2010 10:29

I shout at the telly a lot. Not about vegetables though.

FindingMyMojo · 28/09/2010 10:34

I don't think it's unreasonable for idiots to think a potato is a vegetable. or even more intelligent people .........

Algebra18MinusPiEquals16 · 28/09/2010 10:37

ok I didn't word my OP very well sorry... I know it's a vegetable but it doesn't count as one of your five-a-day, in terms of what you eat as a balanced diet it counts as a carbohydrate
