seething , son off school due to football match on sunday.

coach sent e-mail asking all to be there at 1.15. for a match starting at 1.45. all players need to warm up etc before starting.

so we drop my son of, at the field in the rain. no sign of coach.

they all had to stand, in the rain, until 2.30 before the match could begin, (coach arrvied at about this time)

my son played the 1st half, then was a sub for 2nd half.

so again got colder and colder in the rain.

after the end of match chat, we got home at 4.30

son was shivering madly, so he had a hot shower and some food.

developed a migraine in the evening, and its still there this morning. so he cant go to school today.

Sport is a nightmare. At least it's not rugby.

Don't know how old your son is but doesn't he have a tracksuit or a waterproof in his kit? Now that it's autumn it pays to think nasty weather is pretty much a given. I know how bad kids are for putting the ideas of 'cold' and 'put something on' together... don't think it's the coach's fault, however.

I calculated that I spent 4 and a half hours of my weekend sttod on various touchlines watching DS1 and DS2 this weekend.

You need to master the art of layers. It's the only solution

YABU - surely you should have anticipated the weather. Dressed him appropriately.

however , the point i am trying to make is thatthe coach should have been there on time for the match, with the other teams , and their coachs.

the other teams were warming up, moving around and getting ready to play.

my sons team was meant to be playing at 1.45, but lost the chance due to the coach being late, and team not ready.

if they are moving around and play on time , its not such an ordeal, and they keep warm.

well, regardless of wheher the coach turned up on time or not, you knew your sone was still going to be out in the rain for several hours. if you didn't want him doing it them you should have said no when you saw how wet it was.

how old is your son? do the team not know how to warm up themselves, surely they have doen it enough times they know what to do? did none of the parents think to get them to keep warm?

I'm sure your son was perfectly capable of jogging on the spot or kicking the ball around with his mates until the coach turned up. Or did someone suggest a game of musical statues?!

The coach was an hour and a quarter late. That is not acceptable no matter what the weather etc.

it isn't acceptable hully but he isn't to blame for the weather.

must admit if it was me, if the coatch hadn't bothered to turn up I would have taken ds home long before - wouldn't have hung around waiting for that long. Would have served him right if he got there and discovered all his team had gone - if he hadn't let you know that he was running late.

Do you why he was late? I would have thought he should have had mobile numbers for all of the parents and could have sent a text to let them know if there was an issue - if you get held up on a motorway blocakege for example, it's not your fault but reasonable to let the others know.

Did you have his mobile to text him to find out when he was expecting to arrive given he was so late? Did he make any sort of apology? What if you had got plans of other stuff to do so that you needed to leave at the original planned time - would you have just taken your son off the ptich if he had been playing?

Having said that, eldest ds is only 5 so still too young for playing in matches and I am dreading the day he starts wanting to - at school I hated games lessons and managed to do computer club instead of school matches so the thought of wasting weekends watching school sport is one of my ideas of hell!
