to want to thank the lady in a blue mazda on M25

mw27pink · 25/09/2010 23:01

We were travelling on M25 this morning at about 9.30 on the fast lane. Couple of cars before us suddenly slowed down, but the breaks in our car did not work. All I remeber is me shouting at my husband to slow down as I could see us crashing into this convertable blue mazda(not sure about the make). The lady herself was able to break on time and get out of our way by 10 cm...I am still shaking. We were going out for a fun family day and it could have gone soo wrong. We never got a chance to say thank you to her as we had to move out of the motorway all togather, but I have been thinking of that woman all day as I dont think she realised how lucky she was avoiding us at 70ml/h crashing on her back. So whoever you are THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Animation, did you not spot my irresponsible wanker post?

MollieO · 26/09/2010 13:52

If I had been in a similar situation I would not have Carried on driving that car. You were on a 'family' day out and by continuing put yours and your children's lives at risk as well as other road users. Hugely irresponsible and it is a shame the traffic police didn't stop you.

insertexpletive · 26/09/2010 13:53

Agree about the importance of stopping distances - my dh thinks I am mad when I do the "only a fool breaks the two second rule" thing.

I get really mad when some prat pulls into my safety gap Angry

Animation · 26/09/2010 13:57

Goblin - did you spot my glad you're alright post?

AttenboroughFan · 26/09/2010 14:01

I do the 'only a fool...' thing too insert. I'm a fast driver and can't stand it when I'm doing 60 on a country B road and some arsehole is driving up my backside. We get a lot of idiots where I live Angry

Also, am I the only pedantic cow here or is anyone else annoyed by the spelling 'breaks' and 'breaking'? Gah!!!

cumfy · 26/09/2010 14:07

trip-trapHmm

rainbowinthesky · 26/09/2010 14:12

Jesus, this op cant be for real. Surely not. Unbelievable someone could be this irresponsible.

cumfy · 26/09/2010 14:23

Goblinchild
No need to beat about the bush, just speak your mind. :o

pinkbasket · 26/09/2010 14:36

Animation - if everyone knows this could happen then everyone should drive accordingly Hmm.

agedknees · 26/09/2010 14:36

I read the OP and thought this cannot be for real.

Who would have brake failure doing 70mph and then continue on their journey on what is the busiest motorway in Britain???

If this is for real then the OP is totally irresponsible.

sickoftheholidays · 26/09/2010 14:39

MaMo,
no, I sat in the drivers seat shaking for about 5 minutes then called green flag. I did (very briefly) consider trying to drive the 1.5 miles to my local garage, but then filed that thought under "terminally stupid things to do".
The other time I was on my driveway so just called the home recovery lark.
But perhaps if I hadnt had breakdown cover, and would have been charged £100+ to recover car to nearest garage, I might have chanced it, who knows, if you dont have the money to fix the brakes let alone the money for the breakdown callout, then who knows what chance someone might be prepared to take.
(not saying it would be right to drive with dodgy brakes, it is stupid, irresponsible and potentially deadly, just that I can see how in certain circumstances, someone might try it)

juneybean · 26/09/2010 14:40

But she says she knew the brakes were faulty before they even went out, that's why she was worried about him driving so fast.

mw27pink · 26/09/2010 14:44

Well.....I am speechless!! Obviously totally irresponsable of me and my DH, but none the less absoulutly greatfull to the brim for somebody else quick thinking to avoid what would have been a serious incident. I have not stoped blessing that woman (I dont know who she is and after yesterday she might not want to know who I am either!!) But I thank God that for every irresponsable driver (like us!!) there are so many good ones:)

Grin I live in Sussex cumfy, and so am regularly zooming along the M25.
Call 'em as I see 'em.

pinkbasket · 26/09/2010 14:52
Hmm
DelphiSwimsLate · 26/09/2010 14:53

"But I thank God that for every irresponsable driver (like us!!) there are so many good ones"

mw this is not a given fact.

Can a wise woman enlighten me - is this person trolling?

rainbowinthesky · 26/09/2010 14:54

I assume your car is in a garage now...I am amazed you could post here so casually when you and your dh have been twats of the highest order.

rainbowinthesky · 26/09/2010 14:56

I appreciate you cleary couldnt give a toss about your own childrens lives but that's no excuse to risk other peoples who do care.

backwardpossom · 26/09/2010 15:02

It actually scares the shit out of me that people who are so clueless are driving on our roads. Angry

Goblinchild · 26/09/2010 15:03

'Goblin - did you spot my glad you're alright post?'

Oh joy. All right and learned nothing from the near miss.
OP, please give me the type, colour and registration of your vehicle so I can take evasive action before you crash into me next time I'm doing 70 on the M25. Which will be next Saturday.

rainbowinthesky · 26/09/2010 15:07

I thought the op must be a troll as surely noone can be that ignorant but I searched her nickname and there are several posts. One saying her 4 year old dd had a tantrum as didnt want to cross a road once. Hmm, cant think why..

DelphiSwimsLate · 26/09/2010 15:09

I agree, Backward. It's very scary.

MollieO · 26/09/2010 15:11

Yes I assumed the t word but then discovered other postings. Frankly people like this scare me. The OP completely fails to understand that what she did was wrong. I imagine she is one of those drivers that has a 'princess on board' sticker too. Hmm

I drive the same make, model and colour car as the good driver in the OP's post. If that driver had been me I would have slapped the OP and called the police.

DelphiSwimsLate · 26/09/2010 15:12

Tharnks for the info Rainbow. Good lord.

BelieveInLife · 26/09/2010 15:13

People like you MW scare the absolute shit out of me...

I could be driving along minding my own business and then you, driving a car you KNOW to be unsafe come along and take me out.

You are a an absolute moron.
