I am becoming increasing cross with the way shops/petrol stations etc do not give out itemised receipts. Not for the 1st time I have had to request one and when i got it I found out i had been overcharged.

They probably don't give them to you because they know from experience that most people don't want them. I don't want them and when I'm given the option I get the check-out person to throw them away for me. I can't be bothered to check them and they just take up space in my wallet so I'd rather not have them.

I always check mine. Unless its Costa etc where the items are right in front of you. (although they should still give out itemised receipts as some people process them as expenses)

But Ive been burned at supermarkets before!

i always check mine.

yanbu - they should give you an itemised receipt (it doesn't have to have the item name on it, but it should have the prices on - disclaimer because my till can do "books" "non-book" "book and CD" etc)

I can understand why shops don't print you one automatically......most people don't want them and either leave it on the counter or drop it on the floor. Surely it's not that much of an inconvenience to ask the assistant for a receipt?
