to want to report people using our Private parking

Morning all!

I am getting really pissed off with this flat's parking. We live on the bottom floor of a small private block with private parking to the front of our house in form of a small carpark (8 places).
All day every people come and go come and park their car,get out and walk into town and come back at 4-5 pm and drive off. It does my head in.(I know which cars belong to residents) Why should these people get free parking in our private spaces when everyone else has to pay?
I know our neighbours have said something about it before and there is a girl upstairs who said to them that her friends from work sometimes park there but I see different people everyday in addition to the regular offenders.

I have a good mind to report them or am I just being a nitpicker?

who do you report them too??

oldraver · 23/09/2010 11:24

Who would you report them too though ? Do you have a specific parking slot or just 'one of the 8' ?. If you have a specific one for you I would think the only way round it would be to get a lockable pole in. If the spaces are a free for all I dont know what you could do

Sidge · 23/09/2010 11:25

Who regulates the parking? Is it in your lease that they are private or allocated spaces?

Not sure who would deal with it but I can understand why you're fed up. Maybe phone the PCSO and ask their advice?

conkie · 23/09/2010 11:25

I would report them.

I hate people who park where they aren't meant to! Especially people who go nuts when they get a ticket for parking on a double yellow line - it's your own fault!!!!

DanceInTheDark · 23/09/2010 11:26

If yo have a designated space then get one of those pole things. Is it advertised as private parking? Who has said so?

pagwatch · 23/09/2010 11:26

Do you not have some kind of tennants/owner group or association you could talk to?

I have had people park on my drive. I tend to shut the gates. It freaks them out a bit. I also contacted the school where they are often 'nipping' into.
It is bloody annying.

Have you thought about accidently blocking in any regular offenders Grin

RunforFun · 23/09/2010 11:28

I have this too.

Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done.

I have spoken to the local police and the local traffic warden who say that as its a private road it is not their responsibility.

They did say that the residents were able to club together and get the cars towed off, but in our case this is unlikely as its just our house thats affected.

It drives me mad.

We've got signs up saying private parking, and space for 3 cars, and theres always some cheeky fecker that squeezes in.

I quite often put notes on saying reg taken and reported to traffic warden. Sometimes it works, but as its a tourist hotspot we get loads of passing traffic.

We looked into bollards but that is £££ I really dont want to pay out.

Can you steal a road cone Grin thats what I'm thinking of now !

Sidge · 23/09/2010 11:30

I have parking ishoos too; I get quite incensed at inappropriate parking and have no hesitation in reporting them where possible.

Just yesterday I reported one of the mums at DD3s nursery for persistently parking in the marked disabled bay (she has no blue badge or need to park there).

pompncircumstance · 23/09/2010 11:41

Thanks,

There is a sign up in front of the flats saying private parking but we use any of the eight places for ourselves. I am not sure who regulates it but I will find out.

Yes Myabe I will get a road cone - but where the heck from lol.

I think I will try and find out who does the lease and see who is in charge of it all.

traffic cone

RunforFun · 23/09/2010 11:45

£30 >

RandyRussian · 23/09/2010 11:58

If you really want to freak them out and have time to spare you can jot down their number, write to DVLA,say you have business premises and you think the driver damaged another vehicle and request the owner's name and address. Then send the owner an invoice for parking.

Takes time and effort though and costs about £5 a time so you'd have to be really pissed off to do it I suppose.

GypsyMoth · 23/09/2010 12:01

an invoice for parking?? but then they could argue that there was no meter...no way of paying, and no rates displayed!!

RandyRussian · 23/09/2010 12:05

The objective is to freak them out and make them realise that they can be traced. Should stop them parking there.

If they pay up it's a bonus Grin

OhWesternWind · 23/09/2010 12:13

Why don't you put a chain and padlock across the entrance and only give out keys to the residents? If you all clubbed together for this it wouldn't cost too much.

Lavenderboo · 23/09/2010 13:06

Do other cars stop you parking your car, getting your DCs to school, prevent you/ DP parking when you get home from work etc?

If not, relax about it. Just think you might be doing your fellow man a favour.

Where I live, if you're not lucky enough to have a drive, you pay nearly a hundered quid a year to park. Everyone is struggeling to find a space. Yet there are at least 6 spaces allocated for a block of 4 flats, where old people without cars live!

There's a drunken old bag lovely old lady who sits at her window all day and threatens to call the police if you do a u-turn in her space.

Don't let this be you.

pompncircumstance · 23/09/2010 13:14

Lol Lavendarboo!
Western we wouldnt be able to really as it is a sharp entrance onto a main road.
That's a goodun RR

Round here parking is like hensteeth. Quite a few people make money by renting out their spaces during the day. If your space is going to be occupied then you may as well get paid for it :)

something like this?
