To be upset that one of the main reasons I enjoy breastfeeding has come to an end

Don't get me wrong the main reason I Bf is for my DC's benefit however a nice little side effect is that you don't get a period for some months. It feels like natures little way of saying your doing a great job now here's a little thank you.

So why has my period started today when my baby is only 7 weeks old and I'm feeding on demand still every 2 hours somtimes. My Ds was 5/6 months old before I started again last time I Bf.

I'm feeling very cheated and sorry for myself.

Don't blame you! This happened to me with dd1, also exclusively bf day and night and never getting more then 2 hours sleep.

Dylthan · 21/09/2010 14:16

Thanks belgo. I really just wanted to know if this had happend to other mums.

It makes me feel better to know I'm not the only one.

This happened to me with DC3. I was outraged!

TWhat is the age gap between yours? There is a 7 year age gap between DC1 and DC2 but only 22 months between DC2 and DC3 and I did wonder if that had anything to do with it?

Huskyflodynamo · 21/09/2010 14:23

Are you sure it's your period? Same thing happened to me and I thought it was a period but nothing since and that was six months ago.

paisleyleaf · 21/09/2010 14:26

I started my periods again around 7-8 weeks after DD was born too.

sickoftheholidays · 21/09/2010 14:27

happened to me too, I had about 3 weeks between end of lochia and first period. I was very unimpressed. I was EBF, and DD would feed every 2 hours, and cluster fed in the evening too.
I do remember my periods not being as frequent while I was BF, rather than my normal 26 day cycle, I was on about a 40 day cycle. Should be grateful for small mercies I suppose.

sterrryerryoh · 21/09/2010 14:28

I hear you, for a slightly different reason. I?m infertile, but I still get periods - and very painful ones. It makes me really angry.
Gah! Poor you - you deserve some ?time off?

Dylthan · 21/09/2010 14:29

There's a 3 year age gap. I wonder if there is any rhyme or reason to why it happens. I just assumed that it was only when you slowed down with bf that it would start again.

Buck- personal question but were you as regular as you were before straight away? Or am I still just dreaming that they'll at least only come every so often rather than every month?

Sorry thanks for all the reply's ds wanted a drink didn't think so many people would answer while I was away.

Hopefully it will just be a little blip. I don't have the stomach cramps that I used to get and my Dh hasn't being doing my head in so I can't of had the usual pmt that warns dh it's on it's way.

I got mine when DD was 9 weeks old, despite BF on demand, bed sharing and carrying her around in a sling. I was most peeved.

BuckBuckMcFate · 21/09/2010 14:45

Dylthan, not what you want to hear but straight back to normal! Grrrr

I'm pg at the moment and resigned to the fact that they be back so any period free time I get will be a bonus Smile

I had periods from 6 weeks after ds, even though I don't think he went a whole hour between feeds. just as regular as before (27 days), sorry. was very angry at all those books telling me I wouldn't be having them.

OkieCokie · 21/09/2010 15:50

Periods return in 60% of cases despite exclusively bf and in only 40% of cases they do not return until bf is stopped. C'et La vie.
