thatsnotmymonkey · 20/09/2010 19:43

name and shame!

trixie123 · 20/09/2010 19:45

mine went up slightly when I got divorced Shock

nowherewoman · 20/09/2010 19:45

Have you added your husband to your policy? Does he have driving claims/convictions?

Kaloki · 20/09/2010 19:45

Post Office. Apparently there is "nothing they can do"

Bearing in mind I've paid up front as well!

And my favourite quote

"your original quote was tailored to you"

and changing my name makes it different how?!

Because weddings aren't enough expense without this. Hmm

LynetteScavo · 20/09/2010 19:45

Do married women drive so much worse than single women? Confused

Kaloki · 20/09/2010 19:46

DH doesn't drive, has never driven. They keep telling me to add him, he doesn't even have a driving license!

OP posts:
Northernlurker · 20/09/2010 19:47

I think you should complain the relevant complaints department and ask them to justify this!

Kaloki · 20/09/2010 19:48

Apparently so Lynette. Hmm

Oh and if I want to leave them to find a cheaper insurer (have been with them just over 1 month) they will only give me back £400 of the money I've already paid them. Out of over £800. Expensive 1 month.

OP posts:
hairytriangle · 20/09/2010 19:49

Shop around! I got a ridiculous hike in mine from £400 - £1,700 for being a total idiot careless driver (four 'prangs' in 18 months).

I shopped around and got it down to £600 elsewhere.

nowherewoman · 20/09/2010 19:49

That's indefensible Shock

Kaloki · 20/09/2010 19:49

northernlurker I'm waiting for a call back from a manager

salizchap · 20/09/2010 19:51

I thought being married made premiums cheaper??? Or is that just for men?

Have I been wrongly congratulating myself each year for only being separated not divorced for the last 4 years? LOL

Kaloki · 20/09/2010 19:53

According to their paperwork, customer services closes at 9pm tonight. Who is waiting with me to till then? I've been promised a call..

Ladyanonymous · 20/09/2010 19:57

I was told (by the insurance salesman Hmm )that being married or in a relationship made it slightly higher as you are more likely to get into the car after a massive row and drive like a twat and have an accident Hmm Hmm

I did my home insurance today and wondered what relevance my "occupation" had - eso seeing as you have to choose from a list and if yours deviates from what they have offered as career choices you have to choose the next best thing which actually has no relevance to your occupation rendereing the question completely pointless.

nowherewoman · 20/09/2010 19:58

salizchap, I think the idea of premiums being cheaper for married people is that apparently you're less likely to have an accident if you usually have someone else in the car with you (an extra pair of eyes) so you're probably not really entitled to that discount and your insurance could be invalid.

JustKeepSwimming · 20/09/2010 20:01

Maybe him being the passenger will make you more likely to crash as he fails tries to mapread Grin

salizchap · 20/09/2010 20:57

Has it ever crossed the insurance company's minds that we might actually use our cars to get to work and not actually have our DH in the car when we drive normally? Or do they think that we all play the little woman? What's more, I can hardly say I am single either as I am still legally married. It would invalidate the insurance if I lied, surely? Actually I am pretty sure I would say I am separated if it gives that as an option... can't remember what I put last time...

spiritmum · 20/09/2010 21:00

Try contacting the Telgraph journo who sorts out reader's financial gripes with banks etc. Can't remember her name though.

GeekOfTheWeek · 20/09/2010 21:01

Shock I would be lived at this.

The cheeky, robbing bastards.

StarExpat · 20/09/2010 21:04

Add your dh. Seriously. Do it. They don't even need a license. I added my dh. He doesn't have a UK driving license but I added him and suddenly.... my insurance was cheaper Hmm don't know why, but it works. Confused

sunshineriver · 20/09/2010 21:05

I hear that all insurance is going up, I've had some neighbours complain about it recently (I don't drive) but one mentioned that he was told all insurance policies will be around (I think) £178 more.

Absolutely disgusting.

GeekOfTheWeek · 20/09/2010 21:13

I think I meant livid not lived Blush

My friends went up massively when she added her dp to hers, but, his dropped by about 400 when he added her Confused

I think they just make it up as they go along.

StarExpat · 20/09/2010 21:17

"I think they just make it up as they go along."

LOL yes I think you're right.
I've tried to take DH off before.

They say "ok... but now you'll be paying x amount" (which is always about £10-£15 more per month!)
