Shes just turned 8 and to put it plainly gets decidedly whiffy by the end of the day from time to time.

We do all the right things.....cotton only etc etc.

I remember loads of stories flying around how harmful deodorants and anti persparents may be and am thus a bit fearful. Not sure if these stories are just urban myths.

I live overseas and my local GP is very gung ho re medicines and stuff and said it was fine but instinctively I am a bit hesitant.

I think its wrong to stop her sweating so don't want to use an anti-perspirant but what about deodorants?

WWYD?

Why is this in AIBU?

Yes, deodorant is fine for an 8 year old. My 9 year old uses it - the Bionsen aluminium free one.

LinenBasket · 20/09/2010 12:11

i would recommend an aluminium free deodrant such as Bionsen or one of the crystal deodrants. She is very young, but if she needs it, then she needs it.

Not urban muyths.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 20/09/2010 12:11

I'd get her a deodorant.

NordicPrincess · 20/09/2010 12:11

get her an anti persperant, you might think its ok to let her sweat but shel get teased at school when other children start to notice. shes growing up now....make it fun for her and she can choose her own and be like mummy...

LinenBasket · 20/09/2010 12:12

or myths even!

pilates · 20/09/2010 12:12

No I think you would be more unreasonable if you didn't buy her a deodrant. If you are worried you can get aluminium free deodrants.

Cartoose · 20/09/2010 12:16

You should definitely buy deodorant for her IMO.

Indaba · 20/09/2010 15:52

Thanks all. She just gets whiffy rather than sweaty....so will head down the deodorant route.

(oh my poor child....so glad she is not reading this!)

and it was in AIBU as I had no idea where else to post and I did think I was being a bit unreasonable actually.

Thanks everyone.

Off to the shops now Smile

I like the Avene one. aerosols are a no-no in our house.

and no, YANBU if she needs it! quite the opposite.

if you're willing to look around you can get metal stick things, or special stones - I know that sounds mad but apparently they work really well!

ChippingIn · 20/09/2010 16:06

YANBU - if she needs it, she needs it. I can't see why you wouldn't get her it, it would be farrrrr worse to be teased for something that is easily solved!

Indaba · 20/09/2010 17:03

Heck....I now have to go back to my husband and say he was right and I was wrong after all these responses.

And I hate saying that! Grin
