in thinking farting is actually not that funny?

DH and I both in mid-late 30s and have been together over 15 years.

And yet DH still cracks up each and every time he passes wind - the stinkier the fart, the more hilarious it (apparently) is, and honestly appears to expect me to find it equally amusing.

Most of the time, I just accept that men have a genetic defect that makes them believe farting is funny, but just lately - perhaps because DC's are at an age where I feel establishing good manners is really important (3 & 5), it has been really annoying me. I have asked DH to grow up and stop making such a 'meal' of breaking wind, but my obvious irritation seems to make it even 'funnier'. I know it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, and in most respects DH is polite and demonstrating reasonable manner but fucking hell, is passing wind really funny to anyone over the age of 10???

God, no, YANBU.

Does he laugh at the same knock knock joke every single day?

Serendippy · 19/09/2010 23:21

I find it bloody hilarious when DD does it, leans over to one side for freedom of movement. When DH does it, it is gross. Cute or gross, age decides.

nemofish · 19/09/2010 23:21

Well it depends on whether it is just a everyday, normal release of gas, or if it is a 'comedy' fart, in which the pitch or tone or length of the fart varies, particulary if it goes squeaky at the end.

We are a family of comedy farters Blush Grin

wukter · 19/09/2010 23:24

Serendippy: like feet

TheCrackFox · 19/09/2010 23:24

Sometimes DH's farts are funny but sometimes they are offensive. It all depends on my mood.

Serendippy · 19/09/2010 23:26

Ooooh, cute feet on babies grow into horrible feet on grownups. When does it happen? (Also, burping and wearing dungarees)

jaded, YANBU

I've never been able to laugh at farting

I just don't get what's funny about it Confused

Although I recognise that this is seen as unusual

SlightlyJaded · 19/09/2010 23:28

DH does seem to be particularly gassy and therefore many of his farts are, in his opinion, exceptional in their length and tone variation.

I still don't find them funny.

But CrackFox you are right, I have PMT today which may be why his latest 'hilarious' fart left me so cold Hmm

The worst thing is lifting an arse cheek to allow it free release.

NeedsToWillGetThere · 19/09/2010 23:30

[pffffftttt]

Hmmm - not funny.

bluefinger · 20/09/2010 02:52

I'm in the not funny camp, although I will fart in front of dp, just do it, not make a big deal of it. My sister finds it hilarious though, no accounting for taste.

Toilet humour just isn't funny, dumb abd dumber etc are the worst.

Chil1234 · 20/09/2010 07:26

It's all about context ... you have to be made of stone not to laugh at the farting in the elevator scene in the Pink Panther. And the outtakes are even better than the final clip.

Jux · 20/09/2010 07:57

It's hilarious if you're 5.

katkouta · 20/09/2010 08:05

YABU.Makes me laugh. But then again DH doesnt do it in our house.
Its someone else Blush

Anenome · 20/09/2010 08:07

YANBU It IS disgusting! I read something once that explained when you inhale somene's fart, the smell is due to tiny particles of their CRAP!

My DH did it too but I kicked up such a fuss that he sometimes will leave the room now...not always but usually. I hate it...so I nagged and nagged and he IS improving...the loo is the place for all that!

katkouta · 20/09/2010 09:29

So there must be lots of poo floating around Hmm surely intestinal gas smells too.

Heifer · 20/09/2010 10:16

God YANBU... How old is your DH 10?

I even tell off DD for laughting at her own "bottom burps" see I am so stuffy about it I can't even bring myself to type the word F*art! Grin

Tippychoocks · 20/09/2010 10:20

YANBU. Not funny and not to be acknowledged in public. Slink off in shame you parpers.
Ditto burping and loud nose blowing.

Farting babies are quite funny though.

skaen · 20/09/2010 10:20

My DD thinks they are the funniest thing ever. She can be rolling round giggling at the word itself, or a word that sounds a little bit like fart. She is 3.

booyhoo · 20/09/2010 10:23

see, as disgusting as i find farting. i don't actually understand why i find it disgusting. Ok for a few minutes there is a bad smell but apart from that, what is teh actual problem with them? the same with burping. i don't get why we have such a problem with them. they are normal bodily functions, why are we repulsed by them? when did that start?

SlightlyJaded · 20/09/2010 10:25

booyhoo because they smell of poo and we can't help but understand that if we can smell poo, there must be an element of actual poo floating around the ether somewhere...

OP posts:
booyhoo · 20/09/2010 10:27

yeah, but it's only a tiny bit. it isn't going to do us any harm is it? Grin

AbsofCroissant · 20/09/2010 10:28

YANBU. I don't find farts funny, and yet my DB and his family, who was raised in the same family as me, finds them hilarious. At lunch yesterday, had to sit through (again) a whole raft of "jokes" about DN eating egg, so he's going to smell in the car, DB eating curry, etc. etc.

It's not funny. At all. Now Seinfeld, THAT'S funny.
