To hope that this person never actually used this car seat?

Was just browsing on ebay and found this. WTF? Confused Not only is that car seat clearly about ten years old, the muppet has threaded the crotch strap through the shoulder hole and both shoulder straps through the hole for the crotch strap.

sometimes people's stupidity actually stuns me

Good grief! I suspect the person putting this together for the photo has never actually used a car seat. At least I really really hope so!!

Annie I am going to cling desparately to the hope that you are right. Unfortunately it sounds like something my ex would do. One day he got a lift to pick DS up from someone else when DS was 15 months old. They said "Oh it's fine we have a 0-3 years car seat he can travel in." Did not tell me this in advance, turned up with a 0-9 month car seat strapped in the back forward facing - lap part of the seatbelt just over the front of it like strapping a person in Shock It was a horrible, shallow, flimsy looking carseat as well. (Won't say cheap as we used the mothercare own brand one and that was great).

Looool no one would seriously use that thing!

StealthPolarBear · 19/09/2010 22:52

I assumed you were wrong and they'd just photoed it from above and behind....but the strap pulley thing is then between the 'shouler straps'...how did they even manage that??

BertieBotts · 19/09/2010 23:59

...That is a very good point SPB. How??

I surprised ebay let people sell used car seats (considering they don't breast pumps and nappies).

can you post a message/question/comment to warn people?

DetectivePotato · 20/09/2010 10:35

Maybe they put the straps like that for the photo just so people could see the straps clearly? .

How would a baby even be done up in that? I would actually have to message the seller and ask I think. Seems very odd.

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 20/09/2010 10:38

Being charitable, I assumed they'd washed the cover (it looks remarkably clean) and then just bodged putting it all back together.

BertieBotts · 20/09/2010 12:02

ClimberChick if you messaged everyone selling an old or dodgy looking carseat on ebay you would be there all day. I too am surprised they are allowed to sell them. I suppose it's because there are some cars which fit very few carseats so they are often bought second hand, the same with special needs carseats as they are expensive. I guess the redeeming factor is that with the old looking carseats they hardly ever seem to actually get sold.

But really for a normal infant/child car seat I think they ought to restrict sellers only to those which meet the current legal safety standards (ie as sold in shops). I saw one a few months back where the seller proclaimed "This car seat is metal framed, much safer than the flimsy plastic they sell now!" Confused When exactly were the metal framed seats usual? More than ten or fifteen years ago I'd bet!

However, this person has 100% positive feedback!

I guess that is only from the people who buy things, not those who look at such photos and pass on by.

I like the presumptuous "You are bidding on a..."
