To think the American car seats I have seen are

Much better than the UK ones? One I looked at went up to fit children 120lbs and 5ft 5" tall, ok I know you probably wouldn't want to use it that long but...

I am looking for a new seat for DS2 as he keeps escaping his. The ones in USA have the chest plate which would stop this.

I saw one via a link on here a while back which had a kind of tray thing that went on the front of the car seat sort resting on the childs legs kind of thing - wish i could find it again.

WOW I could still use it as I'm only 5ft 3" and around the maximum weight (or was pre preganancy)

catherinewho · 19/09/2010 20:58

I would fit that seat!!!! Maybe American cars are much bigger?

trixie123 · 19/09/2010 20:59

we have one of the kiddy pros and they are great. The Which guide rates them very highly for safety as they supposedly distribute the shock of an impact across the whole upper body rather than just the neck. My DS (13months) is happy in it and sleeps in it fine. Very easy to use, you just put the seatbelt round.

The Kiddy Infinity Pro is great until you have a stroppy 2yo who point blank refuses to have the bumper bar on, brings her knees up to her chest and staples her arms down by her sides, making it absolutely impossible to strap her in! At this point I very much regret the Kiddy and wish I'd stuck with a "normal" 5 point harness car seat.

TheLadyEvenstar · 19/09/2010 21:39

YES thats the seat!!!

Only prob I have is whether DS2 would fit in it tbh. He is over 3st and quite tall (4-5yr old clothes) problem is he is only just 3 (yesterday) so want him in the 5 point harness a bit longer iyswim?

Crap, I didn't know that my UK brought car seat might be illegal here in the US(just moved). We don't have a car so only use it when we hire one. Crap again, now I need to decide if IABU to not buy a new one.

Anyway was going to post that I'm under both 5 5 and 120lbs (just, but DD is only 6 months), but I did see an enormous kid today.

Tarenath · 20/09/2010 06:47

Very interested in this thread! DS is 3.5 and will need to move out of his stage 1 seat soon. I've been looking at the maxi cosi rodi (I think!) but there's also a good chance we'll be emigrating to the US in a couple of years so would I be able to take that seat with us or have to buy a new one out there?

TheLadyEvenstar · 20/09/2010 06:56

Wish our laws were stricter tbh!

The amount of children I saw yesterday not in car seats at all is shocking
