to not want to let my four year old DD have the Barbie she was given for her birthday?

We thought hidden it too quickly for it to have resonated on her consciousness but not so - many months after her birthday and suddenly she is making repeated demands for it. Think she's way too young - she doesn't, I do. AIBU?

WTF is wrong with a child having a barbie?

I wasn't allowed Barbie as a child because my parents couldn't afford. I had a Cindy instead Sad

Thanks for all your comments, it has made me think more about my motivation for not giving it to her before.

She wasn't going to be forbidden from ever having these dolls but she is a good bit younger than I was when I started playing with Sindy so wasn't expecting it yet . Foolish really as she's getting to the stage of being impressed by the "big girls". I don't remember thinking that Sindy/Barbie represented the ultimate in female acheivement when I was a kid so actually am not really worried about role models, etc tbh, I suppose I just thought of it as being a toy for a slightly older child because I was. However, this probably wasn't even true in the '70s Smile. If she asks for it again I'll give it to her(no mention today) but I'll get a new dress for it as the current one is vile and I'll have to look at it though any mysterious alternation will no doubt be spotted by The Hawk.

Thanks for the designer Barbie link (£100 ShockShock, though it is pretty fabulous) and the Corelle doll recommendation. I think the ballet one would be right up DDs street, on the Christmas list.

My 8y is currently sat upsatirs playing with barbie and HSM type dolls. We rotate her play type sets every couple of weeks or so, so this morning changed the play room from being set up with Sylvanian Families to Barbie.

So right now DD is playing with various dolls - they have a house, a plane, a boat, there is a school, tennis courts, stables, cars, etc. Barbie and friends live normal lives in our house, although some appear to very musical too, lol. Oh and the male dolls muck in just as much as the female ones too.
