AIBU to think that people who use the word "Simples" probably are!?

I find it quite frustrating to constantly read comments on this forum that are seemingly intelligent but are finished off with the word "simples".

You are quoting a talking Meerkat FFS.

That made me chuckle - simples Grin

nemofish · 17/09/2010 22:30

It's just leaked into culture / general conversation.

A bit like 'chillax' (from american tv series) and saying 'could you be any more unreasonable?' like Chandler in Friends.

Adverts have a huuuuge influence on us now, as so many people see them.

They are quoting a puppet meerkat. Or is he computer generated?

Dd is 4 and does a brilliant 'simples' with the meerkat sound at the end.

I think YAPossibly BU.

claig · 17/09/2010 22:30

YABU. I have used "simples" myself once. These catchphrases become part of the common parlance, like "beam me up, Scottie" or "book him, Danno" or "holy ..., Batman" or "scorchio"
They liven up speech and add an extra dimension.

Minxie1977 · 17/09/2010 22:32

This gets better - an extra dimension - snarfle

retiredgoth2 · 17/09/2010 22:32

Is this something from the wireless?

I'm afraid Young Persons' parlance somewhat passes me by...

claig · 17/09/2010 22:35

they create a shared context for those in the know and exclude those who haven't got a clue. It's like hip slang, you've got to keep up or be square.

nemofish · 17/09/2010 22:36

Ah, I love 'scorchio!'

And I have given up now, but I used to love being able to say 'I ham smoking a faaaag' a la Waynette Slob if dh asked me to do something and I don't wanna

claig · 17/09/2010 22:36

it's the meerkat advert on TV "comparethemarket.com"

pointydog · 17/09/2010 22:37

yabvu. Meerkats cannot talk, you know, lurker

claig · 17/09/2010 22:37

I used to like 'loadsamoney'

AnnoyingOrange · 17/09/2010 22:39

Aleksander is so much more than "simples"

you need isimples

Wink
newwave · 17/09/2010 22:40

It was amusing for a while and has now had it's day.

AnnoyingOrange · 17/09/2010 22:41

Son of a mongoose

claig · 17/09/2010 22:44

Smile do you think they went through all this, so you could get cheap car insurance?

nemofish · 17/09/2010 22:46
Grin
IMoveTheStars · 17/09/2010 22:48

Yes, and when I'm at the wildlife park with DS, spending yet another hour looking at the meerkats, the 50th person to say 'ooh look, meerkats.. simples' will be thrown into the pit and covered in rotten eggs.

I don't think I'll be renewing my annual pass Grin

AnnoyingOrange · 17/09/2010 22:49

Don't worry, it's only a fur wound
