To be furious that freeview 'upgrade' has resulted in channels disappearing

Hi

Just a quick rant....
Message on freeview popped up asking if I wanted to upgrade now, upgrade later or not upgrade.

I chose 'now' and all of the freeview channels have gone, vanished, and it just says 'no signal'. This may be because I'm in rented accomadation and the rooftop aerial will be ancient.

Feel disproportionatley so angry,
no CBeebies and only 5 channels!

Surely this isn't fair and there should have been a warning, wish I hadn't 'upgraded' and had kept my channels. AIBU?

try doing it again. mine have disappeared and reappeared the 2nd time. hope you can get them back.

JuicyLips · 15/09/2010 17:17

and no YANBU

NOTHEROLDIE · 15/09/2010 17:22

That happened to me too, just reload it again (or whatever you have to do) and they should come back. Ours did with extra ones!!

Good luck ! :)

pluperfect · 15/09/2010 18:12

Yes, do reload/ re-do the "channel scan".

lemonbergamot · 15/09/2010 19:23

Just trying, fingers crossed!

It's worked, crisis averted and CBeebies calm restored.

Hahaha, CBeebies is crucial, isn't it?

I had no idea how good it was until we spent some time abroad this summer, and there is no television for small childen (DS is not quite 2 and a half even now). CBeebies offers programming with no advertising, soft music, gentle themes and often a single narrator (e.g. ITNG). With regard to the latter, it is astounding how difficult it is to listen to the Transformers type programmes, with all the shouting, or foreign dubs, with really annoying voices. I'm not surprised such programming turns children passive!

Rant over ! Smile

our area went digital months ago. We have various devices - mainly pretty new, mostly Sony and none now work properly. WE keep losing the channels and keep needing to retune. From what I've gathered if you are in an area where you can get signals from more than one transmitter then you're stuffed as the digital tuners keep gettign confused. It is a real pain.

i had a nice box that was a couple of years old. when they 'upgraded' the freeview it stopped working completely - it couldn't be used with the new signals so had to buy a new one.
there are lots of oldish boxes and tvs that will stop working as they upgrade.

I was more annoyed when Sky removed Sky Sports News from Freeview (bloody tight wads). My DS is 5 and is crackers about football and we had a few tears when it went.

Heracles · 16/09/2010 00:10

They did that after the BT ruling.

thespindoctor · 16/09/2010 00:16

I've noticed this with certain iPhone apps as well. You download an update, which turns out to be worse than the original. Technology!

mumeeee · 16/09/2010 00:22

You just have to retune and the channels will come back

llbeanj · 16/09/2010 01:05

it depends on the box, some boxes will just stop working completely (like mine) nothing you can do about it
