Both mine (3 & 16 months) go swimming. Both go to Baby Ballet & my 3 year old is on a cookery course at the moment. If they show any interest we'll send them to piano when they are older.

domesticsluttery · 15/09/2010 10:53

sorry, link didn't work: Urdd

Hazeyjane · 15/09/2010 10:54

dd1 and 2 (4 and 3) do gymnastics once a week

Bramshott · 15/09/2010 10:55

We do a fair amount I guess, although I'm sure not as much as some!

DD1 (7) does:
Swimming
Piano
Ballet
Theatre group (monthly)

DD2 (3) only does a music group with me on a Friday morning at the moment, but I'm sure she will do more as she gets older.

Is your DS in reception or still at pre-school? I know that some people like to ease right off with extra-curricular stuff for at least the first half of reception, to give the kids a chance to settle into school.

brassband · 15/09/2010 10:57

5 YO
Gymanstics X2
Cheerleading
swimming
Rainbows
violin
dance (run by the school straight after school)

mummyofexitedprincesses · 15/09/2010 10:57

Mine do swimming, Brownies, Music Club, Art Club and singing lessons. I worked out I spend over £100 a month on extra-curricular activites but feel really guilty if I don't. They really love them and so I have to find other ways to save money.

LauraNorder · 15/09/2010 10:58

DD age 7

Swiming
Mermaids (synchro for little ones)
Brownies
Horse riding

DD age 5

Swimming
(offered him football but he's not interested)

DD 18 months so a bit young yet but we do go to a music group and I take her swimming.

SleepingLion · 15/09/2010 10:59

DS is 7 and does swimming and Beavers outside school; has piano lessons and goes to karate and rugby club (this term) inside school.

He used to do riding but has given that up.

Ineedsomesleep · 15/09/2010 11:04

DS 6 goes to Beavers once a week and sometimes goes to a football drop-in on Saturdays. He was doing swimming too but we had to stop that when he was ill last year. Just waiting to see how his health goes this Autumn before talking about doing more.

DD 3 goes to Monkey Music once a week.

Personally, I think you can do to many extra curricular activities. They need time to relax, play with friends etc.

NordicPrincess · 15/09/2010 11:05

my son is 4.5, he has just started reception and used to go swimming at the weekends with us. I am going to take his to drum lessons, its half an hour once and week. if he dousnt like it wel stop, im not really so keen he becomes a musician, just to encourgae his enjoyment of music and to familiarise him with instruments. I used to take him to gymnastics and he loved it but ideally if such existed id take him to athletics as he loves to run and getting rid of that energy would really help him.

I am going to be careful with him the first half of reception though as hes already quite tired and hes only done half days this week

DastardlyandSmugly · 15/09/2010 11:07

DS (4) has just started football and it going to be doing tennis, French and possibly drama. I'm lucky that a friend can take him to these with his own DS as I work full-time and woulnd't be able to.

DD (2) doesn't do anything at the moment although I take both of them swimming at the weekend.

moogalicious · 15/09/2010 11:08

Ours do 2 activities each, not including school clubs which don't require any ferrying around/cost anything:

dd1 (7)does trampolining and brownies
ds (5) does swimming and a church club (soon to change to Beavers)
dd2 (3) will do swimming from Easter

That's it - it just costs too much money and it's nice to have a few days when we can just go to the park after school!

Bramshott · 15/09/2010 11:10

That sounds sensible Nordic Princess.

cheesesarnie · 15/09/2010 11:11

dd has swimming once a week
ds1-film making club,textile club,film club.
ds2-film club and gardening club.

Shaxx · 15/09/2010 11:12

ds1 aged 5 does football and swimming.
The rest of the time is spent with friends/park and me! Grin

NoahAndTheWhale · 15/09/2010 11:13

DD has just started reception and does dancing after school on Monday. Is about to start Rainbows as well.

DS is 6 and does Beavers.

Might investigate swimming again at some point and he is also keen on learning to climb walls (there is a climbing wall near us and you can learn how to climb when you are 7).

ZZZenAgain · 15/09/2010 11:13

dd does a lot and I find the older they get, the more time it takes up. Swimming becomes 3 x week instead of 1x after they have the skills. Music involves orchestra as well as lessons, plus practice and extra rehearsals for concerts. Same with choir. After some time they get additional voice training, plus all the rehearsals for concerts and then trips away. Just all adds up so at some stage you end up doing fewer different activities but spending more time on the ones you do IME

ruddynorah · 15/09/2010 11:15

Dd is 4 and just started reception. She does ballet once a week after school and swimming lesson on Saturday morning.

neytiri · 15/09/2010 11:16

dd (8) does

swimming
art
brownies
gymnastics
horse riding
cookery
choir
guitar
piano
recorders
flute
violin
hockey
netball
film club
school council
school radio
school newspaper roving reporter
tennis
ballet
modern dance
tap
textiles club
show choir
book club
girls football team

do you think that's too much?? Wink

ds's out of school activities are

picking his nose
lying on the floor trumping

MorningTownRide · 15/09/2010 11:20

DC are 4 and 5.

They do nothing.

DD likes to play on her own after school, with toys or on the Cbeebies games website.

DS has just started reception. DH would love him to start rugby when he's 5 Smile

MorningTownRide · 15/09/2010 11:21

Ds not DH!!!

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 15/09/2010 11:27

DS (nearly 6) does swimming and judo. He wants to start learning the piano so I'll add him to the waiting list for lessons at school (lessons will still be in school time, although he'll have to practice at home).

DD (2.5) doesn't do anything organised.
