to sue hotel chain

tosuehotelchain · 12/09/2010 16:35

We were at a well known hotel this afternoon for Sunday lunch, after lunch we were walking through the reception area where DC (13months old) fell and split open their head on the corner of the table (adult shin height) we had to ask the receptionist for medical assistance, all the while DC screaming and blood pouring everywhere.

We had to take DC to A&E where he needed a GA, however because of past expeirence with this, it was then decided that our baby would go through the treatment and the horrid trauma with no pain relief, he needed 1 inner stitch and 2 outer stitches, and next week he will have to endure it all again.

I phoned the hotel to let them know the result, and asked for safety guards on the tables to stop further accidents like this in future, they said the would get back to me, due to the "design" of the lounge Hmm

Everybody has said to sue, as its the only way they know, that this hotel will take action.

I know this from expeirence sadly also with the chain.

However I feel uneasy about it.

I'd forgotten the woman who claimed to have dropped her child because the nasty X Ray man did something nasty. That was self-justifying nonsense as well.

Haven't read all 23 pages,so sorry if I'm reapeating others. But I didn't think shallow wounds were stitched now. There isn't very much flesh covering your head so I doubt it would have been deep, couldn't it just have been glued?

Northernlurker · 13/09/2010 23:47

Brassband - the op has requested (in the 23 pages) that people respond to her only in an adult manner (by which she means agree with her and not question her in any way I think) Your post veers dangerously towards the 'childish' - I'll move up and make room for you on the bench. Grin

bottyburpthebarbarian · 14/09/2010 04:44

Pixie - I remember that thread too. The OP just vanished and didn't come back.

I'd asked a number of questions on that thread and didnt get them answered. Hate when the poster does that.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 14/09/2010 12:44

I had to read the supersoaker thread from beginning to end. I am still boggling that anyone could believe she was being reasonable to let her child hijack someone else's birthday party like that.

And the B&Q thread!! I was in there at the weekend - I didn't realise what a risk I was taking. Shock

tokyonambu · 14/09/2010 12:55

I've got some storage requirements for which invisible paper racks would be quite useful. Perhaps I should ask in B&Q?

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 14/09/2010 13:01

But how would you be able to find them to put anything in them, tokyo? And what if someone HURT themselves on your invisible paper rack and sued you??? It's not a risk worth taking, imo. Grin

Summerbird73 · 14/09/2010 13:04

i walked into an invisible paper rack whilst being supersoaked by a precious 8year old boy.

who do i sue? Grin

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 14/09/2010 13:13

The hotel where it happened, obviously!!

JudyPink · 14/09/2010 13:29

I read this thread on Sunday, when it was a mere 1 page and agreed that you can't really sue the hotel - kids are kids and you will always need eyes in the back of your head to enable the prevention of them falling on their wobbly feet! What on earth has happened to get this thread to 23 pages?!?

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 14/09/2010 13:45

I could summarise, Judy - but it would take another 23 pages! And I'd lose the will to live.

But basically we are all nasty people, vile and vicious, and utterly unreasonable to have thought that a thread entitled 'Am I being unreasonable to sue the hotel' implied that the OP had ideas about suing the hotel - because that was just to get attention. She had no intention of suing, just wanted to protect all the other little children out there.

And within 24 hours or so of the accident, she had already been offered a week's stay at a hotel in the group, by way of compensation, but had donated that to charity.

And even though she said her friend was going to give her the accident reports that proved that adults had hurt themselves on the table in the past, so she'd have the evidence for a court case, she had absolutely never discussed taking these reports and wasn't going to take them.

Oh - and other tables in the lobby did have corner guards on them, just not this particular vicious table.

And only people who agreed with her were sensible and nice, the rest of us were just horrid.

perfumedlife · 14/09/2010 13:48

SDTG you crack me up. Love the round-up Grin

tokyonambu · 14/09/2010 13:50

"Oh - and other tables in the lobby did have corner guards on them, just not this particular vicious table."

I'd forgotten that bit. Has anyone ever been in a public space with corner guards? Indeed, apart from outside corners on kitchen worktops, has anyone ever been in a private space with them?

MorningTownRide · 14/09/2010 13:53

It's a potential death traaaaaap

JudyPink · 14/09/2010 13:54

Oh dear, oh dear! I thought the tables were shin height or something?! Some very small adults must have been dashing about to hurt themselves! It sounds like a very clumsy hotel lobby - don't think I'll be paying it a visit then - I'd hate to become another statistic on their accident books!

PS - great summary StayingDavidTennantsGirl Wink

Whitethorn · 14/09/2010 13:56

A terrible thing to happen and such an awful scar. I can only imagine that it was very frightening for your little one and you. However with toddlers accidents do happen and I dont think you can blame the hotel, and I think the whole remove the table idea is a bit much, there are sharp edges everywhere !

STDG i wish you had posted that round up last night - might have saved me an hour of boredom disbelief indepth research and consideration Grin

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 14/09/2010 16:13

I am now on a mission to save the world from invisible hazards

mumbar · 14/09/2010 16:29

ROFL just came back to cheack any developments but your summary SDTG was spot on. Grin

Going to have to read the supersoaker one later as I get the feeling it will be a good read.

Incidently I caught my leg on the corner of my dining table last night gave myself a dead leg and a huge bruise. Realised this thread had gone mad when I started thinking whoes fault it was, Ikeas as they made the table, specsavers as they made my glasses, HA for designing the house with that space for the table. Wink

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 14/09/2010 16:36

Hobnobs - for the sake of clarification, is it the corner protectors that are invisible, or the corners to which they will be applied? Grin

annec555 · 14/09/2010 20:11

The supersoaker thread made me snigger like I was deranged on a busy commuter train this morning.

I hadn't realised that the other tables had protective corners - now I can see what has gone on here. Clearly the table in question is a bit of a live-wire and the hotel management do not want to take it to task to it has been allowed to choose whether or not it wears corners.
After this recent incident it will almost certainly not be invited to any other hotel lobbies. Sad
