seeing a heavily pregnant woman (well, seven months ish) sitting outside a maternity unit smoking and f'ing and blinding at her partner who in turn is f'ing and blinding at their two little tots. i know life can be tough when you're pregnant but still, IS it really hard to quit the cigarettes?

OP posts:
KindleOfKittens · 07/09/2010 20:09

they never are children in DM world, are they?

Odysseus · 07/09/2010 20:09

Actually maybe it can be - I don't know, I've never smoked.

But the f'ing and blinding is definitely inexcusable. I hate hate hate seeing that in front of kids.

notnowbernard · 07/09/2010 20:11

Not bothered by whether YABU or not but you are being judgemental, aren't you

Of course it's shit to swear at your kids

Yes it's Not Good to smoke when pregnant

Yes, life is very hard sometimes

Yes, quitting the fags is VERY hard indeed (have you tried giving up a nicotine habit before?)

CazEM · 07/09/2010 20:11

YANBU - at all.

Seeing stuff like that really upsets me too. Both the smoking and the swearing.

No wonder some children have the most appauling manners and language in school if thats what they're exposed to at home.

Vallhala · 07/09/2010 20:13

I'm waiting for a Fruit Shoot to be introduced into the scenario.

Anyone got any popcorn? Wink

whatkatydidathome · 07/09/2010 20:16

It is really hard to quit cigarettes - I did (after watching someone die of lung cancer) about 20 years ago, have not touched a cigarette since, and I STILL GET CRAVINGS! Nicotene is very, very addictive. Just typing this makes me want a nicotine hit now :)

nancydrewrocked · 07/09/2010 20:24

Yeah yeah the OP is being judgemental but if you sit outside the maternity hospital having a fag whilst swearing in front of your children then you deserve to be judged.

So flame me.

notnowbernard · 07/09/2010 20:26

It's just a boring (IMHO) topic to post about

I mean, who in their right mind would disagree and say that it's alright to shout and swear at your kids?

Or that smoking outside the maternity wing was an ok thing to do?

It just sounds all judgy whilst stating the obvious

notnowbernard · 07/09/2010 20:27

Posting it in AIBU? is the thing that grates

ShirleyKnot · 07/09/2010 20:29

I saw a woman beating her dog with a large stick while wearing a nazi uniform, eating cheap mince in a white bread sandwich, smoking a crack pipe having sex with her boyfriend in the park in front of my children, and her kids were called Pilsner and Nugget.

I mean. FFS.

thatsnotmymonkey · 07/09/2010 20:29

ahhhh back, puts feet up]]]]]]] I love a good bun fight.

as you were

BellaEmbergsLovechild · 07/09/2010 20:35

I don't get threads like this at all. The op is being flamed for judging, when actually, smoking harms unborn babies, and swearing in front of dc is awful.

Start an AIBU about, say, non-confident women drivers, and everyone piles in judging their heads off!

OP, yanbu! I'd have judged too :)

nancydrewrocked · 07/09/2010 20:35

notnow in your opinion...

...however there are always a good selection of people who actually don't have a problem with it and come up with a million and one justifications for such behaviour and when they eventually fall flat they call the OP a bitch for being judgey and/or smug.

...or maybe I've just been on MN too long!

SarfEasticated · 07/09/2010 20:37

I hate to see people smoking in front of kids and also swearing in front of them, but some people have really shit lives and can't cope, they lose their tempers.

Sometimes it's nice to show a bit of empathy and smile.

BuzzingNoise · 07/09/2010 20:40

I agree with nancydrew. Yanbu.

mrsmindcontrol · 07/09/2010 21:06

Do you know what, it really isn't difficult to give up smoking- I gave up with minimal sweat, blood & tears after a 20 year 20 a day habit. Was pregnant within a few weeks of giving up and swear have never wanted a cigarette since. My dad gave up with no hassle whatsoever after 45 years. It's all in the mind.

Alouiseg · 07/09/2010 22:16

It's actually really simple, you just stop smoking and don't buy anymore.

I loathe seeing pregnant women smoking, it's so wrong on so many levels.

AnnieLobeseder · 07/09/2010 22:18

Judge away, I would have judged too. And given them a Stern Look. Some people are just horrible, unfortunately.

Heracles · 08/09/2010 02:26

I can live with the f-ing, but the blinding has to stop...

NickOfTime · 08/09/2010 02:32

she was sitting? lazy chav.
