....To be hacked off with John Lewis after waiting ALL DAY for delivery?

OK, I know everyone's had this happen to them, but I'm letting off steam, really, so humour me!

Ordered some furniture from JL and paid extra for it to be delivered today, after taking day off work specially. Have waited in from 0730, which is when the delivery tracking info told me was the earliest time for delivery - though it could be up to 1730.

1730 came and went - no delivery. Rang JL Customer Services but decided to be patient when their phone message said deliveries could continue till 1800.

Rang them again at 1800 and an extremely brisk and unsympathetic woman informed me that they can in fact deliver till 1900 and until then it was all still on track. I'm supposed to be going out tonight - now will have to delay till 1900. The original order confirmation said times of delivery were 0900 to 1800.

To cap it all, the depot it's coming from is about 1 mile from my house, and according to the tracking thing, it was loaded onto the van at 0751 this morning....so it's spent all day rattling around in the back of the van.

AIBU to be steaming? Angry

YANBU at all, I hope they refund what you paid for a specific delivery date

evenkeel · 07/09/2010 18:31

I'll certainly be seeking that money back, Perpetually. SO, SO infuriating - I seem to have a history of delivery disasters Sad

And I expected better from JL tbh

definitely moan at JL - they messed up one of my ordered, I complained and got a refund of about 40% of the purchase price

anonacfr · 07/09/2010 18:36

I'm with you.
If they say on their phone message that they deliver up to 18.00, as far as you're concerned you didn't get the service you paid for.

You should definitely ask for (and get) a refund.

I hope you get your furniture soon!

Hmm, that's a thought.....!

For a kick-off I'm not happy that JL gave three different sets of possible delivery times - none of which were the same as the DHL one!

Still waiting for the van to turn up....25 mins to go before it's officially a 'failed' delivery....

When we ordered cot for ds jl decided to deliver to our neighbours 2 doors up as they had a delivery as well but then the driver walked to our door to put card thru it! I was at home so seemed really daft and I wasn't quick enough to catch driver and tell him so. Madness.

cakeforbrains · 07/09/2010 19:36

So did it arrive by 7?

evenkeel · 08/09/2010 09:08

Sorry, had to go out and therefore logged off, but no. It didn't arrive.

At 1915 I rang JL again and got a different person who was, this time, very apologetic, but started trying to tell me that they might still deliver it as the courier company's ultimate cutoff time was 9pm!

I politely made the point that a) it seemed unreasonable, to say the very least, to expect someone to wait in from 7.30 am to 9 pm just in case they could be arsed to deliver the thing I'd paid extra to have on that specific day, and
b) JL's own invoice says that deliveries are between 9 and 6. And my contract is with JL, so I don't care what the delivery company does - I expect to be able to rely on JL's own info.

Anyway, the magic word 'goodwill' was mentioned, but by then - of course - everyone at the delivery depot had gone home so she couldn't take it any further and find out where my delivery actually was. And although the van was still out delivering, 'we can't contact the drivers' (this is the age of instant communication, folks). So I have to ring them this morning and go through it all again.

And, of course, I don't have the furniture that I needed yesterday to accommodate guests coming to stay. And no idea when it might arrive.

So, still extremely hacked off. In fact, more so....
