Usually if you don't get it you can put the cursor on it and it gives an explanation. But today the pesky little balls won't stay still!!
Can anyone explain? Am I stupid??

my google banner looks normal, no little balls here

yesterday there was a big moving ball thing, I think it was the anniversary of the discovery of the buckyball (buckminstertoluene? from memory)

scouserabroad · 07/09/2010 09:17

lol I like the way the little balls move away if you try to click on them !

back to work!

senua · 07/09/2010 09:18

Eh? Wasn't that yesterday's thing?
I got the cursor-explanation but I can't remember the name (?began with a G). Isn't it an "executive toy" type of thing.

MrsMadWriggle · 07/09/2010 09:18

Agree - lots of fun with the balls, but annoying that no explanation. I loved the pacman one they did a couple of months ago.

SmellyPirateHooker · 07/09/2010 09:22

Doesn't look like there is a reason for it, Telegraph link, well not one they've released yet.

Mowiol · 07/09/2010 09:23

Bumpybecky - yep the other day it was the Bucky ball - Buckminsterfullerene. I knew about the buckyball (I'm a scientist) but have no idea what these pesky little blighters are today!!
Won't sleep tonight til I find out [determined emoticon]

sanielle · 07/09/2010 09:25

Yeah these are like floating bubbles, with no explanation!

Mowiol · 07/09/2010 09:26

Thanks for the link SmellyPirateHooker!!
Maybe they will release a reason later.

bumpybecky · 07/09/2010 09:29

ooh like the telegraph link :)

mine's not like that though - it's just the normal google homepage :(

VirginOnTheRidiculous · 07/09/2010 09:30

Normal google homepage here too.

senua · 07/09/2010 09:34

I'm confused now. What was the label on the ball-thing the other day? I could have sworn that it started with a 'G' and I'm sure that I would have recognised the label 'Buckminsterfuller' and not got that mixed up with something else.

sanielle · 07/09/2010 09:36

Google.com is normal

Google.co.uk has bubbles.

massivemammaries · 07/09/2010 09:37

I like it

goodmanners · 07/09/2010 09:38

i dont know either but am loving playing with it.

Mowiol · 07/09/2010 09:39

Senua - can't remember what the label said exactly BUT if we are talking about the same banner (and we must be) it was the Buckyball/Buckminsterfullerene molecule.
I think it was Saturday?

minipen · 07/09/2010 09:40

Delighted I am not alone in wondering what it means

werewolf · 07/09/2010 09:40

Wah! Can't get it. Sad Can someone do a linky please?

Eleison · 07/09/2010 09:40

It is a conceptual representation of the London Blitz, to mark 70th anniversary of its commencement, apparently.

"The frantic movement of the balls represents the violent disintegration of London life; the color and humor represent the optimistic and socially-minded response of Londoners."

minipen · 07/09/2010 09:41

www.google.co.uk/webhp?rls=ig

does that work? it's classic home

minipen · 07/09/2010 09:42

Really? I feel guilty for enjoying playing with it now

werewolf · 07/09/2010 09:43

No, doesn't work. Confused
Well, the link works, but the balls aren't there...

Mowiol · 07/09/2010 09:43

Thanks Eleison!!
Where did you find that out?
I do love the google banners (I don't get out much). Grin

Pacman one was great Smile

StealthPolarBear · 07/09/2010 09:48

We've done a survey of the office - it doesn't work on IE7 but does on IE8.

I'm also irritated that the mouseovers have gone, why have they gone? I knew the other day's was a bucky ball, but why?? It's normally to commemorate an anniversary or birthday or whatever.

funkychunkymunky · 07/09/2010 09:48

Have you tried googling it?
