I am talking about people who shower everyday and bath there toddlers every day.Unless you work in a dirty job you dont have to shower everyday
Also on this site I have read about women who change clothes daily and bedding after a few days.
I shower every 4 days and wear clothes for a week, apart from undies which I sniff everynight to see if they will do another day(I also sniff DW knickers but that is another story)
Just think of all the water these people waste and co2 imissions used to warm the water
There is no need
ooooh I am getting worked up now just thinking about these selfish people
and I havent even started on the all the bleach and detergent flushed down the drains

I could go on but it is sundaynight and I want to chill with a bottle of wine

I hope that hand has been washed recently xpat.

HerBeatitude · 06/09/2010 12:47

Blimey.

Bet you don't get much in the way of fellatio...

StarExpat · 06/09/2010 12:47

Links (clean) elbows with expat and Morloth Grin

Casserole · 06/09/2010 12:49

LOL HB!

expatinscotland · 06/09/2010 12:56

I not only shower every day, Morloth, but also exfoliate at every other shower.

GetOrfMoiLand · 06/09/2010 13:00

Exfoliate? Shock

Think of all those crushed up apricot kernels you are wasting Expat, and all that scrub going down the drains and clogging up all the filters and killing all the baby sealions.

Shame on you with your selfish cleanliness obsession.

expatinscotland · 06/09/2010 13:05

I use that Soap and Glory stuff, too, GetOrf. It takes probably extreme amounts of energy to produce that chemical cocktail.

GetOrfMoiLand · 06/09/2010 13:07

OOh I use that as well I think - the sugar one.

oh god think of all the SUGAR TREES using all that energy to produce sugar to scrub my excess skin

Does sugar grow on trees?

GetOrfMoiLand · 06/09/2010 13:07

Oh yes sugar cane..

expatinscotland · 06/09/2010 13:15

It's smells lovely, too! Much better than unwashed hair and stale clothes.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 06/09/2010 13:17

I shower (pretty much) daily because I get night sweats due to the antidepressants I am on (so showering at night wouldn't be a reasonable alternative), and because I have very greasy hair - it looks lank and disgusting, and smells of dirty hair if I don't wash it every day.

Plus, for me, not caring for my personal hygiene is a clear sign that I am slipping back into depression, and is therefore something to fear.

However, whilst I do have clean undies daily, I don't have clean clothes daily - as someone said further up the thread, showering daily and using deodorant does mean that skirts and tops will last more than one day.

OP - it is truly disgusting not to change your socks and boxers daily. You could wash them by hand, with a very small amount of eco-friendly deodorant, and dry on the line or the radiator if you are really worried about the environment - but not changing them is rank.

There is a potentially massive water shortage problem in the south-eastern half of the UK, I don't understand how anybody can say different. Groundwater tables are falling steadily (over last 1-80 years); a lot of energy is used to get water clean enough to drink and then we go and use that top quality drinking water to flush the sodding toilets and wash clothes purely out of habit, not because they are actually smelly or are dirty it's totally unsustainable.

And our drinking water suffers from increasing concentrations of nitrates (from yet more unsustainable agricultural practices).

Yes I have done published research on groundwater recharge in the UK, am not just prattling on.

I am with you OP, though I wouldn't be so bolshy about it. A good compromise for those with genuinely open minds is washing crucial areas at the sink with soap and a flannel, old-fashioned style, rather than a whole showerful of water being needed.

Lauriefairycake · 06/09/2010 16:41

I think we should all use less water.

And by that I mean a 3-minute shower rather than a full bath.

If everyone did that and didn't waste water by flushing every time they have a tiny wee then it would be much better.

ChippingIn · 06/09/2010 17:04

lljkk then they need to look at better water storage, because there's certainly not a lack of rain in the SE.

Water is a renewable resource - we should not have to worry about washing ourselves or our clothing.

Nicklebabe - do you really only shower once a week?

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 06/09/2010 17:21

Lljkk - as I have already said, I think I need a shower every day, because of the night sweats that I get. That means I sweat all over, so I'm not sure how you expect me to clean myself using soap and flannel at the sink.

Does this mean that I am not genuinely open-minded? You are saying that people who don't agree with you, aren't 'genuinely open-minded', and frankly that is offensive.

thefirstmrsDeVere · 06/09/2010 17:21

I agree that we all use too much water. We are so used to it being on tap (geddit), we take it for granted.

How often have you heard some twit wag say 'the have got a bloody cheek to charge for it, it comes out of the sky for free!'
Hmm

I think its time we all thought a bit more about it. I am very guilty of using too much. My washing machine is on all day sometimes.

DS2 cant wear his clothes more than once before washing. DS3 and DS4 may have a few changes because they are so little. I think DS1 makes up for them because he rarely changes his clothes and I havent seen his duvet cover for about 3 mths Grin

If I didnt have a shower in the morning how the hell would I wake up!

of course you should shower if you stink
My complaint is the people who do not work up a sweat, officeworkers etc who change clothes daily and throw the one day old clothes in the wash
Fair enough if they put the clothes back in the wardrobe
Just think of the millions of people worldwide who shower daily>All the energy involved
As the supermarket says "Every little helps"

When Vegas stops being lit up like a sodding Christmas tree 24/7/365 I might consider not having a shower every day, changing my bedding every week and using my tumble dryer, till thenI shall carry on cleaning

costacoffee · 06/09/2010 19:58

I smell a rat, just off to shower in the rain!.
