...... People don't change their bed sheets for 2-3 months?

I can't believe it. I change all ours weekly, not least because there is nothing quite like getting into a fresh bed.

But 2-3 months without clean sheets? Surely not????

I have allergies. I find frequent changing/hoovering anywhere makes everything much worse. Do not disturb works best.

There must be some seriously deluded people if they think they don't stink for wearing the same clothes on the trot for days and sleeping in a bed they haven't changed for months.

size6feet · 06/09/2010 01:04

I think I must claim the record here (or rather the H).

HIS bedding was changed 13months ago, by me, and only because my sister was coming to visit me. before that the sheets, etc had not been changed for about 18 months.

As you walk up the stairs the smell from his room hits you. He also lets the cat sleep in there so its totally covered in cat hair too. His pillows are deep orange and stiff with sweat and greasy hair. And yes he's been asked to do something about it. I'm just waiting for him to spontaniously combust!

In my room I change the bedding once a week and after reading all this will start leaving the covers back and vaccing the mattress at least monthly.

Each to their own ways.

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 06/09/2010 01:24

Ha, Appletrees!

Honestly, if you shower in the morning after getting up off your sheets, it doesn't really matter what the sheets smell like, does it? I mean if you're comfortable with the smell, and you're showering before leaving the house, it's an absolute non-issue. I change weekly now, but I used to be much slacker, and I didn't smell.

Size6, having said the above, are you saying that your husband didn't change his sheets in over a year? No wonder you have separate rooms. Cripes.

size6feet · 06/09/2010 01:46

Yes Tortoise, I stopped doing it when I moved out of 'our' bedroom and he is yet to start.

So actually, well, he's never done it!! Shock

There is a Thick layer of white dust everywhere so that'll be his dead skin.

The door is left ajar otherwise the cat scratches the landing carpet to get in there. I try not to look in. The smell is rancid.

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 06/09/2010 03:04

Eurgh.

Wordsonascreen · 06/09/2010 06:17

size6feet · 06/09/2010 08:50

Words - as the unions were mentioned it may mean Human Resources.

gagamama · 06/09/2010 09:38

I do mine every 2 weeks or so. I always bath before bed and usually still have wet hair, so my pillow smells soapy fresh for ages. My main motivation for changing the sheets is to make them taut again, otherwise they seem to stretch out of shape and refuse to stay on the bed. I have a thing about my sheets needing to be smooth and tight, I can't abide them baggy.

thekidsmom · 06/09/2010 09:42

Yuk, yuk, yuk.....

I aim for once a week, manage once a fortnight as a minimum......

Longest we've been is 3 wks...purely because I changed them in a fit of hyperactivity when I got home from hospital with our newborn daughter and we've been too knackered to remember since! Coincidentally they've been done today. On the whole we change them every 10 days, which is more of a pain in winter as we don't have (and don't want to be honest) a tumble dryer.

usualsuspect · 06/09/2010 10:13

Well if that makes you a better housewife than them good for you Wink and can you invent a bed making machine please

GetOrfMoiLand · 06/09/2010 10:18

Why is it so hard to change your sheets? It is easy.

In winter I change mine 2-3 times a week, in summer every day. Me and DP sleep nude, so it is just like having clean clothes on every day. I would probably do it once a week if we wore pyjamas. But I also like the feeling of clean sheets.

It takes 5 minutes in the morning to strip the bed and put the sheets in the washer, and 5 minutes at night to put the clean sheets on.

Months without changing your sheets is just vile and dirty.

GetOrfMoiLand · 06/09/2010 10:19

And LeQ is right about people smelling stale and not noticing it.

minxofmancunia · 06/09/2010 10:25

once per week would like to do it twice as I feel a bit mingy sleeping in them after 3 days cos of our feet touching the bed clothes. stupid i know,my feet are fine and dhs are NOW after a lot of "encouragement" on how to sort them out (twice daily foot washes, foot powder, odour eaters in shoes . not wearing the same trainers every day for 6 months etc.). Unfortunately my favourite bed linen is now ripping as it's been weakened by frequent washing so it will become den stuff for dcs.

Change tops every day but wear skirts/jeans for 3 days, is this minging?

expatinscotland · 06/09/2010 10:29

My husband changes the sheets. He's not a househusband, either. He works full-time.

One or the other of us changes the sheets once a week because not changing your sheets for months in minging.

It pongs and LeQ is right, the minger just doesn't smell it anymore.

Makes you wonder what the rest of their house is like.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 06/09/2010 10:31

EVERY DAY!! I agree going months is minging but every day is a bit obsessive. And who was it who said they shower twice a day? wow...

I change our sheets and covers prob every 10days, and turn the mattress each time more because if I don't I'll forget to ever do it and we'll get sticky outy springs.

What on earth is airing your mattress?!

And putting on sheets and duvet covers is a major PITA and def takes more than 5mins

AND (while I'm at it) I just don't get that european thing of top sheets - my mum does that, sounds like extra washing to me, not less, and makes you all restricted, horrid

GetOrfMoiLand · 06/09/2010 10:31

I imagine that non sheet changers also have rank tea towels which haven't been changed for days, a j cloth in the sink which dates from when Thatcher was in power and a dirty fridge.

GetOrfMoiLand · 06/09/2010 10:32

Agree with the top sheet thing - what is the point of that?

And yes, it only takes 5 minutes to put sheets on. It's easy.

usualsuspect · 06/09/2010 10:33

I can't be arsed to hoover the carpets half the time ,let alone my mattress ..
