to want fireworks banned unless you attend a public show

We live on a smallish estate, from 8 pm tonight a house 2 doors across has been letting these fuckers off,it sounds like a shotgun each time!(yes,it's that close). My dog hates it so barks constantly,so I've had over a hour of noise from them and from my dog scared.

At 8pm it wasn't even dark,so what the hell is the point of fireworks, apart from pissing off the neighbourhood who are settling young children or comforting frightened animals.

Ban the fuckers I say, unless you are miles from anywhere or attending a public do on 5 th nov.

YANBU, they are too dangerous and scare the shit out of animals

BelleDameSansMerci · 03/09/2010 22:11

YANBU at all. For some reason, where I live, firework season seems to start at the beginning of October and goes on until about 2nd January. I bloody hate them.

Tillyscoutsmum · 03/09/2010 22:12

YANBU. After seeing a 3 year old boy flung 12 ft in the air and die at a shitty bonfire in a pub beer garden many years ago, I hate them Sad

Narketta · 03/09/2010 22:12

YANBU.

TheNextMrsDepp · 03/09/2010 22:13

They're banned in Ireland except for public shows; you can't get them in the shops. Good idea - they are horrible things.

poshwellies · 03/09/2010 22:14

Oh how bloody awful Tilly Sad

YABU. There are plenty of noisy, tiresome and annoying things other people might want to do but banning everything to appease whiners doesn't make for a better world.

poshwellies · 03/09/2010 22:17

I'm sure there was a time, when I was youngish, that fireworks were only lit on 5th november (at organised bonfire and firework displays) and NY's eve.

Suits me fine.

I'm utterly sick of fireworks.

I may ask dh to go with his shotgun and fire it off randomly from 8pm,see if it pleases the neighbours,we could say it's my birthday or something and we need loud bangs to enjoy it Hmm

YANBU, I feel exactly the same.

I HATE THEM!!!!!! Anyone who buys them or sets them off is a wanker. Anyone who actually enjoys the noisy fuckers is a wanker too.
Should be display only, and then only the visual ones with not much noise.

I feel sorry for your dog, my dogs, every animal ever scared of them, and cannot wait for the day they are banned - which, judging by the shitty letter I got from the MP I wrote to, will be no time soon.

differentnameforthis · 04/09/2010 03:47

You have to have a licence to get them here (Australia) & very rarely are they allowed to be used by Joe public.

It's lovely not having to listen to them for 2 months every year!

ccpccp · 04/09/2010 09:38

YABU.

8pm is NOT late, and the housing estate doesnt belong to you, or your dog.

Giddyup · 04/09/2010 09:56

Poor pooch, but still YABU. lots of things are noisy, dangerous and annoying (many children for example). But we can't just ban everything that fits those criteria.

However stupidity, rudeness and inconsideration should be banned; Your idiot neighbours should have popped a little note through all of your doors so you were at least forwarned.

Lougle · 04/09/2010 22:51

YANBU.

I personally think that

A) they should be licenced, and only those with a licence can buy them

B) they should only be available for public displays

C) Such public displays should only be allowed on the night of 5th November, the preceeding Saturday & Sunday and the following Saturday and Sunday.

D) Such public displays should be required to be registered with the Local Authority, and detailed planning submitted including display plans, audience location, etc.

E) No child under 12 years old should be allowed at a display without a suitable adult.

MistsandMellowMilady · 04/09/2010 22:52

Agree with Lougle.

Where do I sign?

LoisWillkerson · 04/09/2010 22:53

I agree and while we're at it can we please ban those stupid sky lanterns too?

Meglet · 04/09/2010 22:54

Yanbu. The 'domestic' fireworks are crap anyway. Why bother with something dangerous that isn't that good?

Public shows win hands down.

RubberDuck · 04/09/2010 23:00

YANBU I know someone who was badly injured after a firework was thrown into a crowded pub :(

poshwellies · 04/09/2010 23:05

We had them AGAIN tonight.

MistsandMellowMilady · 04/09/2010 23:10

We had a burst of them too, lots in a row about half an hour ago. I wonder why? Hope it isn't the shape of things to come.

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 04/09/2010 23:15

I quite agree. They are a pain in the arse. We have ponies in a quiet rural area, but for at least six weeks every autumn, riding out it an absolute nightmare! Even in the day, you can neve be sure when one will go off. My friend had a lucky escape one year when one went off in the afternoon and her horse shied in feint of a car! For a good week around bonfire night, the poor horses aren't even safe in their stables and do laps of them in terror for most of the evening!

poshwellies · 05/09/2010 00:19

Setting them off in daylight, you can't see them, tell me what the point is?

OP posts:
borderslass · 05/09/2010 00:34

YANBU Don't have any public displays in our area but still don't like them were rural and have lots of horses around us, there's no need you shouldn't have to keep your pets in for weeks on end.I remember when it was only on 5th November or the Saturday closest to it.
