Couldn't Eastenders for once promote breastfeeding?

AIBU to think that after 3 babies being born in the last few months they might promote breastfeeding just once?

Are you talking about Sam? She's giving him away for adoption. I think her breastfeeding would be pushing it, seeing as she's not even looking at him.

GypsyMoth · 03/09/2010 20:19

thought they had?

sorrento56 · 03/09/2010 20:19

What Shaz10 said.

Egg · 03/09/2010 20:20

Was going to say the same as Shaz. Unlikely Sam would want to right now as she doesn't want to keep the baby.

autodidact · 03/09/2010 20:20

lol @shaz10!

maybe the research on mothers who DONT breastfeed has concluded that they live in Walford type circs.....hence not showing anyone breasfeeding??

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 03/09/2010 20:21

True re Sam......

Why not last 2 babies though?

Heather BFed hers when he was newborn, in the hospital, she didn't carry on for long but she did.

GypsyMoth · 03/09/2010 20:23

sam has kept the baby....

onadietcokebreak · 03/09/2010 20:25

Did stacey want to BF and didnt take her medication because of it?

usualsuspect · 03/09/2010 20:25

Its not actually real though .....

Shaz10 · 03/09/2010 20:26

LOL at Phil in his crack den!! :o :o

AnathemaDevice · 03/09/2010 20:29

I've always assumed that they can't show it, not for any pro-FF reason, but because at some point the babies they use for filming will need feeding. As a newborn has no concept of waiting til the end of filming, it has to be fed as soon as it needs it, so out comes a bottle while the scene is going on.

Of course, I could be wrong.

scottishmummy · 03/09/2010 20:29

schlocky tv prog.has no responsibility to promote bf.bit daft to expect it too.do you expect holby to show best clinical practice

mumbar · 03/09/2010 20:30

Yeah Heather BF, Stacy storyline was about the safety of BF whilst on her meds and Sam was gonna give her ds up for adoption but has taken him for a pint instead!

lemonysweet · 03/09/2010 20:30

oh yeah, because if they dont do it on eastenders then noone will even know breastfeeding is possible....

in Heat this week [one of my shameful daughters bought it, honest] they printed pictures of phil in his crack den along with captions like "mmm lovely crack" "Peggy, can i borrow some of your crack?"

Little Mo breastfed her baby (ages ago). In fact she expressed as well as bf. Also Zainab breast fed Kamil quite a lot. Oh and Honey bf her little baby that was born the same time as Tania's.

I know it is only fiction, but when we had a similar discussion before someone pointed out that they probably had to show some mothers bf and some ff exactly as it is in rl.

In fact with the Walford demographic, probably they are showing too much bf to be realistic.

There was a v long thread when it was noticed that a large tin of SMA was in Tania's kitchen in effect providing formula advertising.

DilysPrice · 03/09/2010 20:34

It's quite possible to portray bf on telly if you want to - ER used to do it all the time, they had endless entertaining stories about leaking during surgery, men feeding EBM with strap on things, giving colustrum to a baby before giving it up for adoption and people accidentally using bottles of EBM to make tea.

Ripeberry · 03/09/2010 20:35

Have you ever seen a Chav breastfeeding?

scottishmummy · 03/09/2010 20:36

expecting tv drama to act as public health information is silly.ee has no responsibility to show healthy eating (everyone in caff, innit) or moderate drinking (all in queen vic)

because it isnt real,is hyperbolic entertainment

ForzaDelDestino · 03/09/2010 20:40

er I hope you are posting that in jest Ripeberry

onepieceoflollipop · 03/09/2010 20:40

My mum is always put out that they don't do much ironing or other housework, particularly those with young dc. Lol, I said to her that it would be very boring if we watched entire episodes of Hev ironing or Peggy scrubbing the loo! (or indeed some mother bf)

Rockbird · 03/09/2010 20:42

I was trying to watch through DD having a tantrum. The leader of the group that Stacey went to said something about moving on from full fat to semi skimmed. But those babies are only little... Confused
