there are some ''wider spaces'' at local carpark not marked just a sign up saying ''wider spaces'' I parked there cos I have a fat arse but as I walked from the car I was attacked by some fat tap dancers formerly known as the rolly polys. They felt a greater need for them I guess.

ledkr · 03/09/2010 17:22

in an ideal world disabled people should just be able to drive their cars around the shop. Thus freeing up the carpark for many types of minority spaces.
Bad hair day spaces. sulky teenager on board spaces. twatty hates shopping husband spaces wearing awful clothes today spaces etc etc

tethersend · 03/09/2010 17:24

You should only be allowed to park near the entrance if you breastfeed.

Tiredmumno1 · 03/09/2010 17:25

Why oh why do the workmen feel the need to plonk their work vans there, we can obviously see you have no kids,

so if they lay off the beer they may be able to get their fat bellies out easier Grin

Good heavens you lot - what on earth is wrong with locking the children in the car, at the farthest reaches of the carpark (so you can't hear them arguing/setting fire to the dog/painting the baby purple) and then doing your shopping at your leisure. There would be no tantrums (unless you have to take your husband with you), and you could have a cup of coffee and a sticky bun in peace and quiet when you finish.

In my day......

ledkr · 03/09/2010 17:43

Drive thru is the answer. like a safari park. the staff could come and climb on the cars te amuse the children

Rockbird · 03/09/2010 17:48

They could have a monorail going up and down all the aisles, you sit in your own carriage on the little train, grabbing items as they pass, scanning and packing as you go. Then the train stops at the checkout while each person hands in their scanner and pays, then moves on a carriage. You could stay on it while it takes you to your car. You wouldn't have to use your legs at all!

nymphadora · 03/09/2010 17:48

ledkr please open one, I'll travel miles for that!

tethersend · 03/09/2010 17:50

Good idea Riven.

In fact, if only there was a way to order the shopping from your living room, perhaps through some sort of electrical device, and have it delivered to your door... Oh well, perhaps one day Wink

ledkr · 03/09/2010 18:06

Yes but aldi don't do that new fangled modern way and I actually enjoy shopping from boxes before queueing for hours then having my shopping launched back into the trolley before packing it all into bags in a wet and windy carpark.
Nymph...I may well do that. could have a little theme park too and some ridiculously over priced refreshments. oh yes and a lanky student shop boy dating leaves from a high tree near the checkout

ledkr · 03/09/2010 18:08

Eating leaves of course

Cazzybaby · 03/09/2010 18:24

I went to tesco earlier and a costa coffee van was parked in the disabled bay delivering to the coffee shop. Good on costa's for employing a disabled person and not discriminating hey! Grin

BubbaAndBump · 03/09/2010 18:45

My DH just suggested the drive thru one, so now I suspect he and ledkr are one in the same.

Nice idea rockbird but my hubby's concerned about forgetting something! His words "you'd end up having to go all the way round again just for a tin of beans" My answer; "just don't forget something first time round!!"

Galena · 03/09/2010 18:58

GetOrfMoiLand - It was me shooting at you!! Well, not really - I live in Cheltenham and wouldn't be seen dead tend not to shop in Gloucester. Unless it's ASDA. They do good pizza and curry. Yum!

I want parking spaces for those of us without cars. Why should we miss out on all the fun and vitriol

I went to Tesco the other day with dcs. Tried disabled parking with no luck, thought we might manage with an ordinary space as I had dd with me to help but after driving round three times realised there weren't any of those free either. Then on the way out I spotted an empty P&T space and in I went! Ooh I felt so naughty! I bunged ds's blue badge on the dashboard and got out with my 14 yo and my 10 yo, just waiting for some irate mother with a dissolving baby to challenge me.

I'm not usually so brave but I'd just taken ds (severe ASD) shopping for school shoes so I no longer had the will to live. Wink

Mmm, not sure about the monorail idea. If it was too slow it would be torture, much worse than getting stuck behind people who decide to chat in the aisle when you are in a hurry. Too fast and shoppers desperately hurling tins of beans towards their baskets would probably breach some kind of health and safety rule!

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 03/09/2010 19:28

Of course, none of you would have these problems if you shopped at Waitrose.

Grin
Pixel · 03/09/2010 19:35

Lol, is that because I could just get my chauffeur to drive around until I cameout with my shopping? Grin

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 03/09/2010 19:38

Don't you just send the housekeeper, darling?

ModreB · 03/09/2010 19:41

When I was VERY pregnant with DS3, I parked in a Tesco Parent and Child space, with my mum, naughty I know but there were at least 5 other spaces free and I had horrendous pelvic pain and swollen legs. Got out of the car, and a funny little man from Tesco came over and said to us, "You can't park there, it's for parents with children." My mum replied "Well, I'm her parent and she is my child, and by the way she has her child with her, look." Eyes swivelled to belly. Grin

He just stood there with his mouth open as I waddled off.

AppleAndBlackberry · 03/09/2010 19:41

Antidote - In Leclerc in France they have pink pregnant parking spaces! No parent and child ones though.

MillyR · 03/09/2010 19:41

You couldn't have a miniature train in the supermarket. Disabled people wouldn't be able to get on it as all the mums would refuse to fold down their pushchairs on the train.
