ok logically I am - but bear with me here. Dh picking me up from airport or station ,wants to time it so he has to spend minimal time there and preferably not even get out of car

aibu in feeling slightly insulted

if it was me i would arrive early and eagerly await loved one.

His attitude of wanting it to be as painless as possible smacks of being put out at having to do it in the first place and hence uncaring/can't be arsed .

We haven't had major fall out about this btw- he thinks I am mad Grin

perhaps i am

And the woman is thinking about how much more special it would make her feel if he was there in the arrivals area waiting to carry your suitcase before chauffeuring you home.

So much for equality GrinGrin

My DH proposed to me in the arrivals hall of Heathrow - of all the romantic places Grin!!

QS · 01/09/2010 19:14

ggirl, it works very well at Heathrow! Grin

MisSalLaneous · 01/09/2010 19:16

Ooh sorry ButterflyEffect, I was just joking. :)

PosieParker · 01/09/2010 19:17

Are you pregnant?

olderandwider · 01/09/2010 19:18

I never expect to pick up or be picked up from airports. I admit I may be weird but it just doesn't seem reasonable to drag people out at all hours to meet me/them.Different for old and infirm of course (and yes, if you live many moons, rivers and mountain ranges away), but able bodied people can surely manage to get home by themselves. Little people can wait another few hours before meeting the beloved parents too

shoshe · 01/09/2010 19:20

ggirl, bournemouth airport is pants waiting around in, especially if the cafe is shut!

Haha, when I was with XP we picked my cousin up from the train station. When we got there I went to get out of the car and he looked at mde like I was mad. "Aren't you coming?" I said surprisedly.

"Er, no. It's raining. And if I stay in the car the parking will be free."

So I took DS (8 months old) in the (almost torrential) rain and ran up to the platform. It was wonderful and me and my cousin who I hadn't seen in 3 years had a wonderful running-into-each-other's arms hug! Totally worth it. And I would have paid the £1 or so for parking too.

YABU and a teensy weensy bit insecure

Muser · 01/09/2010 19:26

When I go to visit my dad he parks in a layby outside the airport, waits to see the plane ladn, waits a bit more, and then drives round to get us. I can't blame him, Inverness airport is probably even more dull than Bournemouth.

brimfull · 01/09/2010 19:28

lol at me being insecure

My brother often meets us at the airport when we go home, and does the "phone me when you arrive and I'll just drive past" thing. Last time we phoned him, he said "I'll be 5 minutes", 20 mins later no sign of DB - he was at the wrong airport - twat! (Luckily they are only 20 mins apart, so time for a coffee)

Are you going away for a very very long time?

You have watched too many films and want him with a banner saying 'we love you mrs ggirl' and then him to sweep you off your feet and everyone to ooh and aah.

Wink
NoahAndTheWhale · 01/09/2010 19:42

I will go against the tide of popular opinion and say YANBU. I love waiting at train stations or airports. Would probably get there a bit unnecessarily early to enjoy the experience :)

ABitTipsy · 01/09/2010 19:44

You are lucky he is coming to pick you up, DH would never pick me up, I just get a cab on my own. SadGrin

mololoko · 01/09/2010 22:37

I'm with you ggirl. He should feel BAAAD. What's wrong with being swept off your feet?

My DH would be just the same mind you.

scallopsrgreat · 01/09/2010 22:57

I'm with you OP. Love it when DH is there to greet me. He never has flowers though [damn him emoticon]!

Heracles · 01/09/2010 23:34

Bouirnemouth's more of a shed than an airport. I want to spend as little time as humanly possible there.

ZacharyQuack · 03/09/2010 05:25

Well you're just going to have to set an example. Offer to pick him up from work tomorrow, and be waiting outside in a ballgown with a banner, flowers and a string quartet.
